Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree in related field

Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area

Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Effective written & verbal communication skills

CPI certification once employed

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Provides special education consultation and instruction to meet the need of eligible students with disabilities. Communicate with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians information pertaining to student needs (such as but exclusively: ARD paperwork, IEP’s, BIP’s and general progress).

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities: (In addition to Teacher job description)

  1. Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  2. Complete local, state and federal paperwork required for program participation.
  3. Develop instructional program for eligible students to achieve mastery of the essential knowledge and skills.
  4. Consult with campus staff & related services personal to provide an appropriate education for eligible students.
  5. Provide appropriate behavior management techniques for eligible students.
  6. Implement LIFE Skills critical elements checklist for structured environment, instructional strategies & behavior interventions.
  7. Administer criterion referenced testing as used to develop PLAAFP (or equivalent) and annual goals/objectives as indicated on student’s IEP
  8. Retain appropriate documentation of skill development and mastery and report progress.
  9. Provide non-medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  10. Complete State assessment for eligible students.
  11. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student’s progress and needs/concerns.
  12. Oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs.
  13. Provide care for students as related to hygiene, toileting, and nourishment.  
  14. Other duties as assigned.  

Equipment Used:

 

Personal computer, copier, printer, calculator, laminator, Smart board, fax machine,  and adaptive equipment.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions.  Moderate lifting and carrying, 15 – 44 pounds.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities.  Control behavior through physical restraint.  Assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological  and chemical hazards.
