Job Summary:
The Product Quality Specialist plays a key role in creating, maintaining and communicating Katzman Distribution produce quality standards. This role works with our warehouse operations and sales teams and our suppliers to ensure we are distributing the highest quality product to our customers. Additionally, this role will work with our customers to share product information and maximize their produce marketing success.
Essential Functions:
- Receive, stage and inspect produce deliveries from our suppliers; heavy emphasis on inbound inspection.
- Enter and edit product lot information in our inventory management software.
- Assist management, sales/business development and procurement staff with the creation of a produce standards manual.
- Develop, document, and practice SOP’s for produce inspection, storage & handling and food safety.
- Maintain documentation related to our food safety program including recording data for receiving, shipping, and storage temperature logs.
- Assist warehouse staff where needed in receiving, counting and put-away tasks.
- Collaborate with management on various projects related to quality and efficiency.
- Embody our culture of service, positivity and excellence when interacting with customers and co-workers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Produce experience preferred.
- Must be able to safely operate heavy powered equipment, such as an electric pallet jack or forklift. This skill will be trained and certified.
- Ability to learn and operate operations software. These skills will be trained.
- Sage, or similar background preferred.
- Willing to have a flexible work schedule; ability to work early AM shifts.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Must have a good understanding of Receiving, Inspection, Warehouse and Food related safety policies and procedures and be willing to abide by them. All safety policies will be trained.
- Strong knowledge of good practices, ie. HACCP,GAPs, etc.
- Must be punctual and dependable and adhere to attendance policies.
- Must work well with others in a team-oriented environment with a positive attitude.
- Able to work independently and solve problems.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Work Environment:
This position will be based in a cold storage warehouse environment with temperatures reaching close to freezing (33° F). This position will involve working with and around heavy machinery and warehouse pallet racking. The company operates 7 days per week and this position may have early morning start times as dictated by our operational requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and maneuver items, up to 50 pounds repeatedly as needed throughout the shift.
- Engage in stooping or squatting repeatedly as needed throughout the shift.
- Sit or stand at desk to operate computer or other workplace technology.
- Must wear proper protective equipment: steel-toe/composite-toe boots, and employer supplied safety vests.
