Job Description
Looking for individuals who are driven, team oriented, and eager to learn to join our team as a Dog Trainer/Assistant. This position is responsible for the individual supervision, training, control, and management of dogs and puppies in Board and Train Training environments and in one-on-one training in our day time programs. Dogs in our facility must be cared for promptly, every day. The facility is staffed 365 days a year and is exceptionally busy when schools are on holiday recess.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drawing upon training and handling techniques grounded in positive reinforcement, clicker training, and relationship building, implement individual life skills training protocols (social skills, impulse control, and obedience skills) with assigned dogs. (60%)
- Follow daily operation procedures to main a safe, clean environment for dogs. This includes cleaning and maintaining classrooms and crating areas and sometimes the boarding area (runs and crates), in such a manner as to provide an odor free and low stress environment for the animals. (10%)
- Maintains a friendly demeanor and provides good customer service while following check-in/check-out procedures during drop-off/pick-up times. (10%)
- Performs routine facility cleaning, such as but not limited to dishes, laundry, vacuuming and moping animal and public areas, restocking supplies, and picking up outdoors, grounds beautification.(10%)
- Maintains electronic and paper records of animal. (5%)
- Handles and controls animals that may be difficult to handle. (5%)
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may not exercise supervisory responsibilities, it will depend on level of experience.
Employment
Regular, Full-Time
Starting Pay
- Between $1500 - $18.00 hour for the first 3 months while learning the job & how to train. Ultimate potential for the right person with the right experience, wages will be based on level of dog training experience.
- Pay will be accessed according to level of experience.

- 3 sick days per year (to start, this increases each year)
- After a 6-month probation period, begin accruing vacation at 1 week paid vacation per year. (3 weeks at 5 years)
- Hours:
- Monday through Friday (Can fluctuate, with the Right Applicant)
Weekdays 9:00 am through 5:30 pm, 1 hour lunch break
Qualifications
Education/Training
Required: high school diploma or GED required
Preferred: Associate's Degree or Relevant work experience in pet care (boarding, daycare, dog training, or veterinary field)
Related Experience/Requirements
Preferred: 3 years dog experience working in training settings, such as daycare or an equivalent experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Required
- Working knowledge of computers (Mac) and Office and/or ability to learn internal software

- Must have reliable independent transportation for training in and around town.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, communication, canine handling, behavior, and care, and positive reinforcement training
- Specialized training in animal behavior, communication, and/or training or equivalent experience
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to move and handle dogs of all sizes (up to 150 lbs) and temperaments
- Ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 lbs
- Ability to constantly change positions to interact with dogs of varying sizes and transfer dogs in and out of crates/kennels.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment daily, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
- The job consists of taking care of 8-14 dogs (feeding, cleaning, medicating, bathing, potty breaking, and training). This is physical work, so the applicant must not have physical limitations like a bad back or knees.
