Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs mechanical work during testing including replacing various engine and chassis parts as necessary and resolving mechanical issues or problems encountered during testing in a timely manner.
  • Completes pre-test preparations of test vehicles, including assembly, changing parts as needed, and torque-checking of all fasteners.
  • Oversees endurance tests including daily documentation and reporting of testing, scheduling endurance riders, and making travel arrangements for the endurance testing group.
  • Performs endurance riding/driving of ATVs, SxS vehicles, PTVs, and Jet Skis as needed.
  • Completes post-test inspections of endurance vehicles, including torque-checking of all fasteners, vehicle disassembly, and crack-checking.
  • Prepares vehicles and testing parts for shipment after testing is completed.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs to test course facilities (buildings, roads, water systems, etc.) including electrical and plumbing work.
  • Performs test course maintenance using heavy equipment such a tractors, water trucks, and bulldozers to repair and maintain off-road test courses (including MX track maintenance).
  • Performs fabrication and assists engineers during prototyping of new products including but not limited to cutting, grinding, metal forming, gas welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, lathe work, mill work, and drill press operation.
  • Assists engineers with installation and setup of chassis and engine data acquisition sensors and equipment for vehicle data measurement testing.
  • Drives a pick-up truck and trailer to and from the test site and completing DOT required log books or other documentation as needed.
  • Maintains valid Driver’s License and DOT Physical Card for driving of commercial vehicles over 10,000 GVWR (CDL not required).
  • Oversees the cleanliness and roadworthiness of the trucks and trailers used by the testing group and ensures that maintenance of these vehicles is kept current.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of this company’s and competitive product technological and mechanical advances.
  • Completes basic shop related duties as needed when not assigned to a specific test.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe working environment in all working areas.
  • Orders parts and tools when needed by the group for testing purposes.
  • Assists in maintaining the inventory of shop supplies and chemicals.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 3 years experience working as a mechanic or technician is required along with a strong mechanical aptitude and a proactive willingness to learn skills and acquire knowledge to be successful in a powersports testing environment.

  • Demonstrates a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience working as a mechanic or technician in an automotive or powersports environment
  • Has a strong desire to learn and gather knowledge to successfully perform all the above mentioned duties
  • Demonstrates the ability to successfully prioritize and organize multiple, competing tasks
  • Is extremely detail and deadline oriented
  • Brings positive energy and enthusiasm to group or team efforts
  • Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn heavy equipment operation is a plus
  • Experience or a desire to learn machine tool operation, fabrication, and welding is preferred
  • Has precise attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials with absolute discretion
  • Extensive overnight travel is required, typically in excess of 100 nights per year
  • Approximately 60% travel is required
  • Has solid knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes
  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus

Salary Range: $28-$29 per hour
