Required: Current California Pharmacy Technician or Intern Pharmacist registration
Education
Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
Required: One year of previous work experience (related experience is desirable).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Assists pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services. Recognizes situations that exceed technician authority (e.g. drug information, bypassing pharmacist checks) and refers to pharmacist for timely resolution. Always obtains pharmacist verification prior to distributing medications to areas.
Answers telephone in a courteous, professional manner. Provides timely follow up on requests.
Accurately fills medication orders per pharmacist request, or following arranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
Assists in stock control. Assures orders received from wholesaler or outside sources have recognized bar codes. Able to send an emergency order to wholesaler. Communicates low stock items to Buyers. Able to prepare orders for offsite areas. Able to prepare returns to wholesaler.
Assists with inventorying, stocking, , removing expired medication, rotating stock, basement orders, assuring correct medication storage requirements are met and monitoring usage.
Accurately repackages medications utilizing labeling and policy standards. Log sheets are consistently accurate and complete.
Accurately fills standard medication trays and boxes. Enters accurate expiration dates.
Accurately loads and refills Pyxis Medstations. Utilizes scanning technology. Promptly reports any defective equipment to IT. Assures SALAD medications are not in close proximity.
Accurately inputs patient charges and credits into billing systems as instructed.
Delivers or assures delivery of medications to a nursing station in a timely and courteous manner.
Performs rounds as assigned to check for unused or discontinued medications. Empties return bins as assigned.
Consistently documents refrigerator temps as part of established policy and procedures. Maintains and updates logs, crash cart lists, and communication as required.
Receives medication orders and scans medications in to inventory. Assures stock is rotated when adding to stock.
Inspects medication storage areas according to procedures. Consistently documents completion of assigned expiration area.
Self-reports on medication errors.
Participates in Pharmacy staff meetings, training, educational and orientation.
Addendum (essential for specific dept)
PHARMACY C2 SAFE ASSIST ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Reconciles and files controlled medication records per established procedures. Accurately loads and refills controlled medications in Pyxis Medstations. Assures ample stock is located in C2 Safe and Medstations. Rotates medications as appropriate to minimize expirations. Accurately repackages controlled medications utilizing labeling and packaging policy standards. Processes returned waste of controlled medications through an established reconciliation process. Assures compliance with quality assurance processes (i.e. weekly narcotic inventory, pyxis vs C2 compare reports, destruction of patient's own medications after 90 days etc). Coordinates the return of expired controlled medications to the reverse distributor. Coordinates the return of incorrect or damaged items.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
Performs other duties as assigned.
