Performs a variety of management functions in planning and implementing security, loss prevention and traffic/parking policies and procedures, coordinating the activities of the security staff in the safeguarding of hospital property. Manages and oversees all assigned areas in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and personnel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Plans, coordinates and directs activities such as: staff assistance with patient restraint and intervention in disruptions by patients, visitors and staff; traffic control; guard and patrol physical property; escort service for visitors and staff; monitor systems response; orient and monitor personnel working in high risk areas; and investigation of accidents and criminal acts.
Develops, revises and implements security policies and procedures in compliance with Kaweah Health policies and procedures and applicable state and federal laws.
Reviews and evaluates reports prepared by security staff regarding investigations of reports of criminal activities.
Conducts follow-up investigation of reports of criminal activity.
Analyzes traffic and parking problems and makes recommendations for new or revised programs, policies and procedures.
Supervises security personnel, participates in the interviewing and selection of applicants for employment, reviews employee performance and applies Kaweah Health and personnel policy to daily operations.
Supervises and/or conducts security awareness programs for the Kaweah Health staff including new employee orientation, department in-services, as well as the security staff continuing education related to the application of restraints, Assaultive Behavior Training and all other mandatory annual training requirements.
Confers with the Facilities Service Director and EOC Committee to formulate policies, determine need for programs, and coordinate programs with other Kaweah Health activities. Confers regularly with representatives of local law enforcement and fire fighting agencies to ensure continued cooperation and coordination of Kaweah Health security activities.
Intervenes whenever conditions exist that pose an immediate threat to life or health, or poses a threat to equipment or the facility.
Develops and recommends new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other relevant information.
Supports the dissemination of information to department heads and others regarding toxic and hazardous waste and materials, safe medical devices and supplies, emergency preparedness, and safety information.
Assists department managers/directors and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
Measures and evaluates effectiveness of the security program, using established goals. Manages process to ensure that an independent Kaweah Health-wide security assessment is conducted annually.
May be assigned as member and/or chair of EOC subcommittees related to security related committees on findings, recommendations, actions and monitoring. Supports the Kaweah Health's Safety Officer and EOC Committee meetings by collecting and formulating relevant information in such a way that decision making is facilitated.
Participates as an active member of the Hazard Surveillance Team in conducting building and grounds hazard surveillance surveys on a scheduled basis to detect code violations, hazard, and incorrect work practices and procedures.
Participates in safety/security training for Kaweah Health staff.
Maintains administrative control of records related to the security program.

Ensures that hazardous materials are transported and stored appropriately, all emergency lighting is tested monthly, all fire extinguishers are checked monthly and recharged annually, and that all emergency eye-wash stations and showers are tested per policy.
Assists in the enforcement of risk determination, interim life safety implementation and infection control for all construction or remodel projects throughout the Kaweah Health.
