Job Description

The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in various settings. This role includes troubleshooting electrical issues, ensuring safety standards are met, and ensuring that all electrical systems operate efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities :

1.    Electrical Installation and Maintenance :

o     Install electrical wiring, lighting, and control systems in new or existing buildings, machinery, and equipment.

o     Maintain and repair electrical equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, and wiring.

o     Perform routine maintenance checks to ensure electrical systems and equipment are operating efficiently.

2.    Troubleshooting and Repair :

o     Diagnose electrical problems by inspecting systems and using testing equipment.

o     Identify and correct faults in electrical circuits, wiring, or electrical components.

o     Replace faulty components or wires to restore equipment or systems to full functionality.

3.    Safety Compliance :

o     Ensure that all electrical systems are compliant with local and national electrical codes and safety standards.

o     Follow strict safety protocols and wear appropriate safety gear to prevent electrical hazards.

o     Conduct regular safety checks on electrical equipment to prevent accidents or malfunctions.

4.    System Upgrades and Modifications :

o     Assist in upgrading electrical systems to improve energy efficiency or meet new building codes.

o     Modify existing electrical systems to meet specific needs of machinery or facilities.

o     Recommend improvements or modifications to enhance system performance or safety.

5.    Collaboration with Other Teams :

o     Work closely with engineers, production staff, and other departments to install or maintain electrical systems for machinery, lighting, or infrastructure.

o     Provide support in identifying electrical needs and implementing effective solutions during project planning.

6.    Documentation and Reporting :

o     Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and installations for auditing and compliance purposes.

o     Prepare reports for management, documenting work completed, materials used, and any safety concerns or issues encountered.

o     Track and inventory electrical tools, components, and supplies.

7.    Preventative Maintenance :

o     Conduct periodic checks and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.

o     Recommend and implement changes to reduce downtime or prevent equipment failure.

8.    Training and Support :

o     Provide technical support and guidance to junior electricians or maintenance staff.

o     Assist in training team members on proper electrical installation and safety procedures.

Requirements

Key Skills and Qualifications :

  • Educational Requirements :
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or formal training program is required.
  • Certification or licensing as an electrician (depending on local regulations) is essential.
  • Experience :
  • At least 3-5 years of experience as an electrician in industrial, commercial, or residential settings.
  • Experience with electrical systems, including wiring, circuit boards, motors, and transformers.
  • Skills :
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and components.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to spot electrical issues quickly.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Work Environment :

  • The role is typically based in factories, manufacturing plants, residential or commercial buildings, or other work sites.
  • Exposure to electrical hazards, machinery, and power equipment is common.
  • The position may require working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Work may be performed during regular business hours, with the possibility of emergency callouts or shift work.
