The Energy Efficiency Adviser is responsible for outreach and education activities to promote the energy efficiency program directed at end customers, contractors, manufacturers, distributors, engineers, architects, and others who provide energy efficiency equipment or services.

Description

I. JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
  • Foster relationships with trade allies to maximize the number and size of their submitted projects.
  • Develop projects directly with our client’s customers.
  • Field industry events on behalf of TRC and client.
  • Learn and utilize CRM database for project and lead management.
  • Cultivate, track and manage program leads diligently.
  • Oversee projects submitted by customers/trade allies.
  • Work with an assigned Project Coordinator to help gather required information/documentation to approve/close out a project.
  • Validate and review project workbooks to ensure technical information is entered appropriately in addition to making adjustments based on scope changes or inspections.
  • Place outbound calls to new and existing customers to meet assigned energy saving targets.
  • Manage field time effectively with customer or Trade Ally visits.
  • Develop and deliver program presentations to spur project activity.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns by phone, electronically or in person to move projects towards completion.
  • Work with building owners, property managers and / or facility engineers to provide energy efficiency advice and assistance in participating in energy efficiency programs.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the program’s strategic direction regarding energy efficiency and the business activities of its customers.
  • Identify and provide documentation of on-site opportunities for energy efficiency and provide follow-up to customers as required.
  • Discuss technical elements of energy consuming equipment—i.e., lighting, HVAC, hot water systems.
  • Enter data into spreadsheets and databases to determine energy savings and to manage current projects which may also include collaborating with Energy Engineers as required.
  • Maintain professional appearance appropriate for a representative of our organization and the utility.
  • Build quick rapport with customers or trade allies. Quickly initiate conversations with customers on site regarding energy usage at the facility.
  • When required, provide written summary reports directly to the customer, and summary reports to the client/Program Manager.
  • Be able to work in a team atmosphere, and willing to collaborate on continuous improvement of operations year after year.

II. JOB SKILLS
  • Ability to decipher technical jargon and effectively communicate those terms to individuals of varying skill levels.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of clients and suppliers.
  • Highly-polished communication skills—written and oral.
  • Ability to transition quickly between tasks.
  • Solid problem-solving capabilities.
  • Creativity and attention to detail.
  • Team player with positive attitude and ability to work effectively with different teams.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, occasional overnight.
  • Site visits will require physical activity for extended periods of time, including but not limited to, standing, walking with occasional, climbing, kneeling, and related field work as required. Field work may require exposure to in indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. This may or may not include extreme temperatures. Follow safety and health policies for site visits.
  • Will travel within Client’s territory and must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Responsible for maintenance and fees of the transportation vehicle.

III. PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or equivalent
  • Certified Energy Auditor (Commercial) designation
  • Experience in Commercial or Industrial energy efficiency, technical sales, B2B, or construction industry sales

IV. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION MINIMUMS
  • B.A. or B.S. in Business or Technical field or 5 years’ experience in sales, account management, or similar
  • 1 years’ experience working with energy efficiency or energy efficient products with a utility, government, non-profit or public agency

V. WORK LOCATION
There will be a blend of onsite and remote work. Candidate will be required to travel in our client’s New Jersey territory as required. Candidate will be required to attend at least one monthly meeting onsite at the TRC NJ office located at 317 George Street, Suite 520, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
NOTE: Candidate must be New Jersey Resident and reside in New Jersey.

VI.
WORKING REMOTE REQUIREMENTS
  • TRC will provide the required computer equipment to perform their work. TRC will not provide printers. Equipment supplied by TRC is to be used for business purposes and will be maintained by TRC. An inventory of all TRC IT equipment received by each candidate will be provided and candidates receiving IT equipment agree to take appropriate action to protect the items from damage or theft. Upon termination of assignment, all Company IT equipment will be returned to the TRC.
  • Consistent with TRC’s expectations on information security, candidates must adhere to all Company policies for acceptable use and protection of Company equipment, systems, networks, and information. Candidates are responsible for securing computing equipment, protecting logged-in computers from accidental or intentional misuse, and using extra care when handling Company and customer proprietary and confidential information, in both digital and paper forms. All measures should be taken to ensure that the Company is not unreasonably exposed to cybersecurity threats or loss of information. Candidates are prohibited from using publicly accessible wi-fi when working on TRC computer equipment. USB devices will be blocked on all TRC computer equipment.
  • Candidate will be responsible for securing an adequate internet connection (speed, security, and bandwidth) and phone service to effectively perform the essential duties of the job. Phone service can be cell service. Internet and phone service are at the candidate’s expense.
  • Candidates will be responsible for maintaining their home offices so that they can accomplish their work in an efficient, safe, and expeditious manner. TRC will not be responsible for costs associated with the setup of the candidate's home office to include remodeling, furniture such as desks, chairs or file cabinets, and lighting or repairs or modifications to the home office space. TRC accepts no responsibility for damage or repairs to candidate-owned equipment.

VII. PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
The period of performance is based on our client’s prime contract.
