About the Job:
We're searching for a tutor who can support the following subjects: ACT English & Reading; SAT Reading & Writing; 6-12th grade English Language Arts (reading, writing, vocabulary development, grammar, etc.)
This educator should be able to work both in person at our learning center in Minnetonka and via Zoom, depending on student preference.
Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-person, one-on-one tutoring sessions for high school students at our learning center and over Zoom.
- Prepare students for the verbal side of the ACT or SAT, most of whom have score goals of a 30 composite/1400 total
- Support students in English Language Arts courses/ development. This includes instruction on essay writing, literary analysis, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, grammar, rhetoric, etc.
- Effectively communicate progress to parents through emails and session reports.
- Correspond with administrators and other tutors as needed.
Your Work Experience:
- At least 1 year of tutoring and/or teaching ACT English & Reading and/or SAT Reading & Writing
- At least 1 year of tutoring and/or teaching the English Language Arts (regular, honors, and/or AP).
Your Skillset:
- You can score close to or perfectly on the ACT/SAT verbal sections
- You have previous experience teaching ACT and/or SAT prep
- Helping students with class assignments and studying for exams
- Implementing AP, ACT, and SAT test prep curriculum
- Navigating various online classroom platforms
- Building rapport with teenagers and families
- Teaching writing—not writing for students!
- Expressing yourself clearly in written and oral format
- Differentiating instruction based on student learning needs
- English fluency
Your Education:
- At least a Bachelor's degree in English or a related humanities field.
- Preferred: current secondary education teaching license and/or secondary education certification
- Preferred: experience with Erica Meltzer ACT/SAT test prep curriculum books.
Salary : $30 - $40
