Pay Range: $29.60 to $50.86 per hour - based on qualifications/experience

Starting Officer Wage: $29.60

Status: Full-time, Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Police Officer works under the direction of the Sergeant and is responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

The Kaysville Police Department works cohesively with the community, striving to enhance public safety through education, engagement, and enforcement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list, additional tasks may be assigned as needed.

  1. Assists in responding to the protection of life and property calls, such as robbery, burglary, family disturbances, theft, and vandalism.
  2. Assists in investigation and follow-up investigation on scene and suspect; makes arrests.
  3. Writes and compiles crime case reports, arrest reports, complaint reports, and traffic accident reports for each case handled during the shift; issues tickets to traffic violators and testifies in court.
  4. Performs traffic enforcement and routine patrol; operates the intoxilyzer and radar equipment; monitors traffic movement; reports hazards, such as blockages of street view, holes, etc.
  5. Assists in conducting security checks of business and residential establishments.
  6. Implement training for canines for use in police work.
  7. Learns problem-solving techniques to address community problems.
  8. Participates in directed patrols.
  9. Provides both written and verbal information to the public upon request.
  10. Performs vehicle, foot, and bicycle patrol.
  11. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  1. Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent (GED).
  2. Utah POST certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Some knowledge of police terminology and practices; some knowledge of municipal and state law.
  2. Knowledge of standard safety practices and procedures relating to police operations and equipment.
  3. Skill in the use of firearms, the operation of police vehicles, and all related police equipment. Ability to wear and carry ballistic vest, handgun, duty belt, and all related police equipment.
  4. Ability to remain composed in stressful situations; ability to react quickly; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the police, other agencies, and the public; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must have a valid Utah driver's license and be deemed insurable and able to operate City-owned vehicles.
  2. Possession of the Peace Officer Certification from Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is preferred.
  3. Must acquire and maintain certification with the Bureau of Criminal Identification.
  4. Must acquire and maintain certifications in the use of firearms, less-lethal devices, CPR, and all other related law enforcement tools and applications.

This position will utilize: Police Vehicle, Police Radio, Radar Gun, handgun and other weapons as required, handcuffs, breathalyzer, first aid equipment, desktop and laptop computer, and general office equipment.

  • Possible intermittent exposure to disturbed or emotionally unbalanced individuals.
  • Subject to traffic hazards during emergency responses through heavy traffic.
  • May be subject to shift work or assignments which require non-traditional work schedules.
  • Ability to be recalled and respond to critical incidents as required. Willingness and ability to work overtime as workload dictates.
