Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in recombinant protein production to join our structural biology research team and accelerate gene-to-structure workflows. The successful candidate will play a key role in the expression, purification, biophysical characterization of recombinant proteins and complexes to enable Cryo-EM and Crystallography projects.
Summary of the Essential Functions of the Job
Protein Expression: Transfection of plasmids into mammalian cells and cell line maintenance, generation of baculovirus and expression of proteins in Sf9 cells, expression of proteins in bacterial systems. Good experience expressing proteins is very important for this position. Maintaining
Protein Purification: Design, optimize, and execute protocols for the purification of recombinant proteins using commonly applied chromatography techniques (e.g., affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion).
Biophysical Characterization: Perform biophysical characterization of purified proteins, including but not limited to analytical SEC, Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF), Thermal Stability Assays,
Data Analysis & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of experimental designs, data, and results. Analyze and interpret data for presentation to key stakeholders.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with structural biology team to determine protein constructs with optimal stability and functionality.
- Help the daily operations of the protein production team, maintaining a highly productive protein production laboratory, performing small- and large-scale expression and purification experiments, characterization of samples, and contributing to development of the lab.
- As a team member, develop and implement short and long-term strategies to enhance protein production capabilities.
- Good understanding or experience with vectors and cloning strategies needed for protein expression in different cell systems.
- Help troubleshooting recombinant protein expression to maximize protein yield.
- Ability to work independently (but under guidance) to deliver high quality purified protein samples and complexes for structural studies.
- Ability to efficiently and reproducibility follow established workflows.
- Cryo-EM and Crystallography experience is highly desirable but not required.
Minimum Requirements
- BS/MS/PhD with minimal of 3-5 years of experience.
- Proven experience supporting drug discovery programs using structural biology and biochemistry is desirable.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience working with matrix teams.
- Self-driven, creative and entrepreneurial with ability to support multiple programs simultaneously.
