Job Description
KBITek is seeking a skilled Controls Technician to lead the installation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of control systems at our Richmond, Indiana facility. The ideal candidate will collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure automation and control systems operate efficiently, meet production requirements, and support innovation on the plant floor.
This role includes developing and modifying PLC/SCADA systems, training technicians, and providing technical support during troubleshooting and system upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform I/O checkout for new installations and process enhancements.
· Modify and maintain PLC programs to support plant operations.
· Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues across production.
· Implement PLC programs for new or modified processes.
· Utilize WonderWare SCADA software for monitoring and control.
· Maintain and upgrade the plant’s SCADA system and ensure validation compliance.
· Provide hands-on support and training for maintenance and operations teams.
· Collaborate with OEMs and consultants for advanced troubleshooting and system upgrades.
· Deliver on-call technical support as needed.
· Work with IT to maintain the facility controls network (hardware & software).
· Ensure compliance with safety, GMP, and food safety standards.
· Report and escalate any food safety concerns to plant leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Associate’s Degree or 2-year certification in Industrial Technology, Automation, or Electrical/Electronic Technology – or equivalent experience.
· Minimum of 2 years in electrical schematic design/modification.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Controls or Electrical Engineering/Technology.
· 5 years in PLC programming and SCADA systems.
· Proficiency in WonderWare InTouch, Archestra, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC 5, and SLC 5/05.
Familiarity with:
· MS SQL
· Industrial SQL
· Wonderware Historian
· AB Panelview
· Sigmatek PLCs
· Robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, UR, Okura)
Travel & Physical Requirements
· Travel: Up to 5%
· Physical: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and handle varying conditions (weather, noise, etc.).
