Program Overview
KBR was selected to support the US Space Force/Air Force Research Laboratory’s ASTRO (Advanced Space Technology Research and Optimization) contract to provide mission equipment operations, maintenance, and upgrades to the USSF’s AMOS site in Maui, Hawaii. The AMOS site plays a vital role in national security by monitoring man-made objects in space and continuously developing next-generation capabilities to keep pace with the expanding space domain. This presents an incredible opportunity to push the boundaries of space and telescope technologies.
Position Overview
KBR seeks a motivated and talented person to join our team as an Environmental Safety and & Health (ES&H) Specialist. The AMOS site has multiple locations, including a remote site at 10,000 ft with specialized mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment. The site has unique environmental and cultural aspects which require careful stewardship. This ES&H specialist provides assistance to Program and Project leads to implement Government and Corporate ES&H procedures/tracking/processes. Works with Government ES&H experts to quickly remedy ES&H issues.

Compensation range:
$65,000 - $97,000
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
Work Environment:
KBR supports work from home when compatible with meeting contract requirements. AMOS is a dynamic work environment, and this contract supports routine operations of and maintenance of mission equipment, as well as the need to respond to real-world events. To the extent possible, schedules are forecasted in advance, but upgrades, maintenance or significant tests require personnel to be present in the telescope facilities on Haleakala or Government’s Kihei office. Candidate must have effective verbal and written communication skills; must be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences or facilitate group discussions; develop accurate written materials to communicate information clearly and concisely.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Government ES&H experts to tailor and implement safety procedures and protocols to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.
- Work with Government Safety team to conduct safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and risks.
- Assist with providing safety training to employees on topics such as proper equipment usage, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment.
- Track and monitor assigned training of ASTRO personnel and promptly notify KBR management of any deficiencies.
- Serve as a point of contact during contract-related emergency situations and liaise with emergency services, as needed.
- Serves as KBR POC for safety coordination for ASTRO contract and test plan development.
- Providing accurate, consistent, and timely information on KBR’s ESOH posture to designated KBR and Government personnel.
- Identifies compliance issues and assists KBR and Government with implementing quick corrective action
- Assists ASTRO staff in integrating safety and health requirements into project planning. Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance to other project groups regarding risk assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution. Provides technical guidance for safety studies, risk and hazard assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
- Helps develop and implement safety and health communication and awareness measures involving training presentations, flyers, posters, signage, and other communication and training media.
- Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of safety-related incidents.
- Provides safety input to ASTRO project leads, so that ES&H requirements are integrated within project planning, design, procurement, and subcontracts.
- Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.
- Conducts inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and KBR requirements. Assists in tracking ES&H performance and trends and preparing reports.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Must have experience working in an environment with industrial equipment.
- Ability to research and comprehend organizational and Government requirements.
- Specialized knowledge in a safety specialty (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, Craft Based Leadership) or engineering (e.g., civil, process safety, mechanical) or related disciplines.
- Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities.
- Broad technical knowledge and experience related to occupational health and safety.
- Adaptable and able to respond to dynamic work schedule to support field testing.
