Position Overview
KBR is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior AWS Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our team in delivering innovative and mission-critical cloud solutions to our customers. As part of a global leader in science, technology, and engineering solutions, you will support cloud infrastructure development, automation, and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) processes. This role provides an opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and advance your cloud expertise in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
This on-site position, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, offers the opportunity to work closely with a highly skilled and diverse team, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and joint problem-solving. While this role primarily requires on-site collaboration, there may be opportunities for remote work as part of the employment package, though these cannot be guaranteed. Responsibilities
- Support the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of AWS cloud infrastructure solutions.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of tools for provisioning, monitoring, auditing, and de-provisioning cloud infrastructure using automation tools.
- Work closely with solution architects and engineers to implement secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
- Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools like Jenkins and GitLab Runners.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
- Support the configuration and automation of cloud environments using tools like Ansible.
- Troubleshoot and provide support for cloud-based applications in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
- Contribute to documentation and process improvements to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
- Identify and implement cloud cost optimization strategies, incorporating FinOps principles where applicable.

Technical Expertise
- AWS Associate-level certification required (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, or AWS Certified Developer – Associate).
- Minimum 6 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or related fields, with a focus on AWS technologies.
- Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation.
- Strong understanding of AWS security, networking, and best practices.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
- Experience implementing cost-effective, FinOps-aligned cloud solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and deliver high-quality results under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations to technical teams.
- Strong technical documentation skills for designing and implementing cloud infrastructure.
- AWS Professional or Specialty certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software engineering practices is a plus.
Special Requirements
- Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credential
- The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
