Design Engineer II – Core Products
Summary:
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and design of new roof curb and/or curb-adapter products (Core Products). In this hands-on position, you will work within a cross functional group on the development, design and manufacturing of new and existing products. You will be responsible for taking a product from concept to production to customer with a focus on product design, manufacturing efficiency, cost, engineering data and manufacturing requirements.

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and design of new roof curb and/or curb-adapter products (Core Products). In this hands-on position, you will work within a cross functional group on the development, design and manufacturing of new and existing products. You will be responsible for taking a product from concept to production to customer with a focus on product design, manufacturing efficiency, cost, engineering data and manufacturing requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design curbs, curb-adapters and other products related to the operation of HVAC equipment.
- Utilize SOLIDWORKS and other related software to create and maintain 3D part and assembly models, drawings and bills of materials (BOM) to support a cross functional group of sales, purchasing, and production personnel.
- Incumbent will ensure that all information and specifications provided to our internal and external customers will be correct, complete, accurate, clear and concise; and will be presented in a timely manner.
- Initiate continuous improvement activities to improve product quality, increase production efficiency, and reduce cost.
- Maintain a working understanding of applicable industry standards.
- Responsible for designing, creating assembly documentation and testing of prototype products.
- Perform feasibility, functionality, and quality testing of designs.
- Analyze test results and implement appropriate design changes and specifications to ensure products meet technical and functional requirements.
- Manage ERP system data as assigned.
- Create Manufacturing job packets.
- Work with Sales staff to ensure the best product and design is considered during quote or submittal phase.
- Collaborate with other Design Engineers to ensure the documentation of Core Products is ready for Manufacturing’s use.
- Support Manufacturing by answering questions and/or solving issues related to production.
- Take part in appropriate meetings to ensure processes, designs, etc. remain up to date and accurate.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Identify areas for and participate in efforts for continuous improvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- Adhere to safety standards at all times.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent related experience.
- Proficient with sheet metal part design and large assembly/in-context designs in 3D modeling software (SOLIDWORKS preferred).
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft products.
- Strong hands-on/mechanical aptitude.
- Strong decision making, organizational and analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to overcome unforeseen obstacles.
- Above average verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Level II Expectations:
- 3 - 5 years of experience in the job or a closely related function.
- Has detailed understanding of job technical knowledge.
- Capable of performing small projects with no supervision and medium size projects with some supervision.
- Capable of performing large projects with supervision.
- Coaches level I team members to help them improve their skills.
- Supervises level I team members on small projects.
