What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator - Entry Level position at KCI Construction?
Purpose:
The Entry Level Estimator will support KCI’s preconstruction and estimating operations by assisting in the preparation of accurate project cost estimates. Reporting to the Director of Estimating, the Estimator will help evaluate bid documents, perform quantity take-offs, and gather pricing information for self-perform civil/utility, bridge/roadway, wastewater and general contracting projects. This role is ideal for individuals looking to start a career in construction estimating with opportunities for learning and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Assist in developing accurate and competitive project cost estimates.
- Document Review: Analyze bid documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Quantity Take-Offs: Perform material and labor quantity take-offs with guidance from senior estimators.
- Cost Analysis: Research and input pricing data for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Supplier/Subcontractor Coordination: Help gather and compare pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Site Visits: Participate in site assessments to better understand project conditions.
- Team Support: Work closely with senior estimators to develop estimating skills and industry knowledge.
- Software & Technology: Learn and utilize estimating software and Microsoft Office tools.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field experience.
- Experience: 0-2 years of experience in construction, estimating, or a related field (internships or coursework in estimating are a plus).
- Skills: Strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Technology: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and a willingness to learn industry-specific estimating software. Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, BlueBeam, Planswift/Onscreen Takeoff a plus.
