Job Summary
- Big Sandy Community & Technical College is seeking an Academic Advisor II to advise students on academic requirements and the selection of courses, serve as a resource for faculty/staff and assist students in developing and personalizing an education plan.
Job Duties:
- Understands graduation requirements for programs.
- Monitors student registration activities and recommends solutions to academic difficulties.
- Understands the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for releasing student information to faculty, parents, and students.
- Performs and interprets degree audits.
- Communicates with current and prospective students regarding advisement, academic programs, and other related issues.
- Maintains accurate electronic records of interactions with students.
- Serves as a student advocate when appropriate.
- Stays abreast of changing institutional information, including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
- Refers students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as financial aid assistance, career advisement, admissions processes, and business office questions until all areas are covered in trainings.
- Provides academic advice to prospective high school students who call, walk-in, or that you engage when visiting local high schools.
- Conducts student recruitment workshops both on campus and off campus.
- Attend college fairs and health fairs for student recruitment purposes.
- Has the ability to teach sections of FYE 105 .
- Has understanding of reviews and interprets placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and 1-2 years or equivalent related work experience
