Job Description & Work Environment
This position requires a combination of plumbing materials knowledge, project management, and relationship-building skills with a commitment to providing superior customer service.
In this position, you will work both inside and outside a branch office setting, with regular exposure to warehouse and pipe yard environments. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, filing cabinets, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters, tape dispensers, and forklifts. Staff must be physically capable of meeting the job's demands, including lifting and moving materials.
Essential Functions
- Develop and maintain relationships with an assigned customer base, including key accounts, ensuring their satisfaction with products and services.
- Seek out new business opportunities and open new accounts.
- Work with the credit department to determine the viability of new and current accounts and assist in collections when necessary.
- Develop and maintain vendor relations.
- Monitor sales trends and product performance results.
- Continually enhance sales skills and product knowledge to promote a professional image in the field.
- Take customer sales orders both in person and via phone or email.
- Quote material for customer requests.
- Enter sales orders with necessary purchase orders and job information.
- Coordinate the sequence of shipping materials to appropriate job sites with operations.
- Ensure paperwork is accurately entered, priced, and shipped to customers.
- Provide feedback regarding any issues with customer pricing, new product needs, or other matters to outside sales and branch management.
- Build relationships with customers and associates.
- Stay updated on industry news and trends, offering customers a source of current news and expertise.
- Allocate materials for orders using branch inventory, other branches (via warehouse transfer), or outside vendors (via purchase orders).
