Under general direction, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the cultivation, maintenance, and construction of the park and park facilities. Work varies, requiring interpretative judgment within prescribed standards and procedures.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform manual labor in the landscape installation, maintenance, restoration, and minor construction projects. Supervise and assist in training seasonal staff and volunteers. Maintain material and equipment inventory. Assist in developing, maintaining, and cultivating park plantings through appropriate horticultural maintenance (watering, weeding, fertilizing, pruning, etc.). Identify and treat potential pest and diseases with integrated pest management and applications of herbicides and pesticides if necessary. Assist and coordinate volunteer work with Horticulturalist for educational and volunteer events. Coordinate work with recreational staff and facility user groups to prepare parks prior to and during special events. Maintain effective working relations with park and facility users. Provide Park users with plant identification/ information as requested. Assist in promotion of the education and volunteer programming. Maintain landscape, related hardscape, and facilities with minor maintenance and renovation. Operate various types of trucks and light equipment. Service equipment used in the maintenance of park grounds. Assist irrigation specialist with irrigation installation, repair, maintenance, plumbing, and related tasks.
