Summary

Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction to students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

An individual who holds this position is required to :

1. Abides by Missouri statutes, School Board policies and regulations.

2. Upholds school rules and administrative regulations.

3. Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.

4. Participates in faculty, grade level, and subject area committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.

5. Maintains a cooperative relationship with staff, students, and community.

6. Serves as case manager in the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.

7. Provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities both in the regular education classroom and in separate special education classes or settings.

8. Communicates with regular education teachers and principals regarding the educational needs and programs of students with disabilities.

9. Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices, and other documentation as required by DESE regulations, the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services or the school principal.

10. Participates in student eligibility evaluations and reevaluations.

11. Participates in the development of an annual budget request for instructional materials needed to implement and support IEPs for students with disabilities.

12. Initiates communication with parents of students with disabilities on a regular basis.

13. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

14. Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher.

15. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.

16. Maintains strict confidentiality.

17. Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy.

Subject area teachers may have additional duties and responsibilities.

  • Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
  • Use district software for recording grades and finding student information
  • Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district

    Conditions and Environment

    The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
