Job Description
Kearney Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Principal for College and Career Readiness at Kearney High School starting the 2025-2026 school year. This position has a 225 day contract with competitive salary and benefits. Candidates must hold a valid Administrator's Certificate. Position is open until filled.
QUALIFICATIONS: The administrator will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by State of Nebraska authority. In accordance with certification requirements and the performance expectations of the Kearney Public Schools, all administrators shall meet the following employment criteria:
- Master’s Degree in Education is required. Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Nebraska Department of Education Administrative Certificate with a 7-12 Principal endorsement.
- Experience: Prior Administrative experience in an educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, technology, supervision of staff, staff evaluation, discipline policies, school laws, management of staff and students, planning, and community relations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include, but are not limited to)
- Serves as a high functioning member of the KHS Administrative Team with a focus on efforts to promote understanding and support for the College and Career Readiness efforts in all areas.
- Maintains a safe and effective learning environment by evaluating, monitoring and supporting CTE staff to improve CTE curriculum and programming.
- Maintains frequent and ongoing communication between CTE teachers, businesses, parents and students.
- Establishes connections with local partners between high school and post-secondary institutions and between KHS and key business and community leaders to promote and grow CCR opportunities for students.
- Leads the promotion, establishment and implementation of Dual Credit course offerings and CTE curricular pathways.
- Serves as a positive school representative when working with business, industry and the media in the promotion of CTE and CCR efforts at KHS.
- Develops, implements and advises staff, students and parents in the area of career awareness including but not limited parent information nights, career and job fairs, business and industry tours, and understanding of Nebraska Career Readiness Standards.
- Arranges for job shadowing opportunities, guest speakers, mock interviews and business tours for KHS and HACS students.
- Works with the counseling department to ensure the alignment of post-secondary planning for students to include the various college and work place opportunities after high school.
- Oversees all career education activities including the programs of work for the CTSOs and serves as the community and state liaison for CTE and CTSO programming.
- Evaluates and leads CTSO organizations.
- Oversees and implements key components of the Perkins Grant.
- Assists the building principal in maintaining order and discipline at school and at extra curricular events.
- Administers district policies and assists in the development of the student handbook, Career Readiness Guidebook, ELO Opportunities documents and other Dual Credit, CCR and CTE documents for publication.
- Assists the principal in the development of goals and objects for CCR efforts at KHS and facilitates action plans towards those goals.
- Counsels students, parents and staff in the areas of college and career readiness and programs of study.
- Oversees the implementation and growth of ELO opportunities for students at Kearney High School.
- Works with the Master Scheduler at KHS to ensure that course offerings meet NDE requirements for programs of study and facilitate a schedule that allows and encourages student participation in CTE and CCR courses and activities.
