Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors for the following course in the Certificate in Applied Genomics program at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI):
CAG 9010 Human Variation and Disease (Fall, 3 credit hours)
Course Description
In this course, executive education students will explore types of DNA variation found in the human genome, including single nucleotide (SNVs), copy number (CNVs), and structural variants (SVs), at both the individual and population scale. This course will discuss the impact of highly penetrant variants on human health, especially as it relates to rare diseases, and the impact of common variation on complex traits and diseases. Topics in this course will include the technologies used to detect DNA variants and to diagnose genetic disease in all types of clinical settings, from prenatal to adult, and the ethical considerations of genetic and genomic testing.
The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. An appreciation for an integrated, team-based approach to learning is especially desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use creative approaches to academic program development, have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and work effectively in a team environment. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Associate Dean of Faculty and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty.

Education And Experience
- Must hold a master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred
- Experience with medical genetics and variant curation
- Experience in online teaching
- Experience in industry or academic research in clinical genomics
- An ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- A strong commitment to a culture of diversity, respect, and inclusion.
- Prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred.
- Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.
