Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Researcher PHD Student at Keck Graduate Institute in Chino Hills, CA. The successful candidate will work on interdisciplinary research related to polymeric materials synthesis, surface science, fundamental separation mechanisms, and biomanufacturing process development for the application of biochemicals production.
Qualifications
- M.S. in Chemical Engineering or a related field, e.g., Biological, Civil, Material Engineering
- Analytical Skills and Research experience
- Laboratory Skills proficiency
- Ability to conduct research effectively
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivation, passion and independence
- Experience in organic chemistry and polymeric science is a plus
- Research experience in polymeric membrane synthesis and separation applications is preferred
- Experience in previous publication in peer-reviewed journal and international conference is preferred
About the PI
Dr. Yian Chen is a principal investigator and an assistant professor in the Amgen Bioprocessing Center at Keck Graduate Institute. She earned her B.S. and PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her PhD research focuses on polymeric membrane synthesis and scale up for water reuse and desalination. After graduation, she served as a postdoctoral researcher at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) working on continuous downstream bioseparation process development and scale up for the production of biofuels and biofuel precursors. Her current research focuses on developing advanced separation materials, devices, and processes to facilitate biofabrication, bioproduction, and biomanufacturing.
