Technician Job Description


Keehl’s Welding and Services, LLC (Keehl’s Welding) is seeking a dock and door installer (Technician) skilled in installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of loading dock equipment, commercial doors, and warehouse equipment.

As a Technician, you’ll work with a team servicing a wide variety of commercial properties. Our technicians spend their days at the customer’s location installing, replacing, and performing other service jobs on dock and door equipment. Technicians are responsible for maximizing client satisfaction by providing safe, world-class repairs, installation, and maintenance with regard to efficient and effective time management.

Keehl’s Welding is a family-owned company based in Southeast Michigan that services a wide range of dock and door equipment on commercial buildings. Our typical service area includes lower to mid-Michigan. Our trades and services include, but are not limited to, welding, installing, repairing, and maintaining dock and door equipment.

General job description -


Essential Functions:

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Technician consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments and/or material/equipment needs
  • Perform repairs in the field at the customer location
  • Properly weld equipment, serviced/installed to a certified standard
  • Use ladders, scissor lift and power tools
  • Perform work at a level that will uphold a lifetime guarantee on workmanship while remaining within the scope of the work
  • Communicate with the manager/team throughout the day to maintain the schedule, especially when additional work is needed
  • Manage workload efficiently
  • Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or loading areas, loading docks, by hand or using forklift or other equipment
  • Provides proper truck management, including cleanliness and organization, and notifies the manager if there are equipment or fleet issues
  • Turns in complete, orderly, and clean paperwork/computer work, including receipts
  • Ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction
  • Efficiently and safely diagnose/troubleshoot issues, repair, and replace a wide range of dock and door equipment
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures
  • Other various tasks as assigned


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in the construction or installation work of overhead doors and dock levelers
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance for commercial dock equipment
  • Prefer prior work experience in skilled labor trades, welding, or similar environments
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail
  • Mechanical, construction, hydraulic, and electrical background with basic math skills is a plus
  • Experience driving a forklift and/or ability to become forklift-certified
  • Must be capable of lifting or exerting force up to 50 pounds or greater frequently
  • Accomplishment driven          


Work Environment and Location:

  • In person, based out of Belleville, Michigan
  • This job requires work in various settings, including inside and outside of commercial buildings
  • Ability to work in wet or humid conditions as well as extreme cold or heat
  • Physical requirements necessary include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and most of the time with infrequent opportunities to sit
  • Must be able to lift or exert up to 50 pounds or greater and be on your feet during the entire work shift
  • This position is normally full-time work and has the possibility of overtime to meet project deadlines
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional odd-hours and/or weekends to meet client needs with occasional overnights, and available for emergency service calls as needed


Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical, welding, and electrical industries
  • Must be over the age of 18
  • A clean driving record and valid driver’s license
  • Chauffeur’s License, or ability to obtain
  • Maintain an accident and incident-free, safe, and courteous driving record
  • Must be able to lift at least 50-75 pounds and be able to work from heights
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials, sometimes in small and/or confined spaces
  • Willingness to work out of town, overnight on occasion
  • A high school diploma or equivalent

  • Flexible and willing to help and support the team in a variety of tasks



Job Type: Full-time, 36-40 hours/week with occasional overtime

Pay: Based on experience, $18-28 per hour



Schedule: Main hours 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, but varies

  • Ability to work normal hours of 7:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional odd-hours and/or weekends to meet client needs with occasional overnights as needed
