PROTECT PEOPLE
- Consider the safety of Keen Project Solutions construction personnel, the customer, operators, subcontractors, and the general public in project design, per OSHA, MSHA, IBC, IFC, NFPA, or other applicable regulatory requirements for all scopes of work.
- Research and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and municipal codes, permits, and standards relying upon proper expertise and resources internally and externally.
- Perform job site observations and report deficiencies, non-conformance, safety issues, quality control issues, and opportunities for improvement to the senior-most project manager on an assigned project.
- Comply with risk management programs applicable to assigned projects, including contracts, insurance, bonding, and any special owner or regulatory requirements. Identify areas of risk, investigate, and propose solutions.
- Contribute to design efforts of all parties involved in the project, including Owners, outside engineers, architects, consultants, contractors, trade contractors, and Project Management staff.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate, and effectively establish, lead, and contribute to internal and external engineering and design teams.
- Lead Design phase of Owner Design Coordination Meetings. Facilitate open communication and collaboration with owners, designers, and trade partners to build a team atmosphere, resolve conflicts early, and drive progress. Ensure design activity and changes are documented and managed. Utilize online collaboration tools and web meetings to coordinate/communicate and conduct business efficiently.
- Contribute to the development of engineering teams to effectively design projects, resolve design issues, answer questions, solve production problems, and make sure that final plans are accurate. Provide basic support for all other departments as needed, along with other assigned duties.
- Teach and Mentor other team members.
- Lead the structural design portion of projects, make design recommendations and decisions, and oversee the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
- Establish and manage structural scope, schedule, and budget.
- Properly prepare and execute design services to meet customers' expectations for clarity, timeliness, quality, completeness, and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively to ensure all team members and customers are well informed throughout the design process, including effective use of face-to-face meetings, web and phone conferences, collaborative software, design meetings, events, and other common channels of communication.
- Provide input on the Critical Path Schedule for the design and procurement phase of projects when considering architectural, design, and engineering resources, and technical hand-offs required for procurement, fabrication, and construction activities.
- Estimate time and cost of structural engineering work. Optimize project resource utilization while ensuring procurement at the most cost-effective terms according to contract documents and defined budgets. Assist in developing cost estimates at varying stages of the project.
- Other responsibilities may include but are not limited: scope development, site investigation, specification and technical writing, conceptual design, design/engineering management, development of engineering standards, and estimating.
- Participate in on-going business development and continued customer service through professional representation of Keen Project Solutions within the industry and through customer, design partner, supplier, and industry contact interactions.
- Work closely with internal and external project partners, engineers, and other professionals to develop project technical parameters and scope.
- Strategically work with our project partners to pre-plan, identify, and eliminate constraints, and manage design risks throughout the project.
- Integrate new technology or environmentally friendly practices into existing processes.
- Critique designs for safety, manufacturability, constructability, potential failures, customer usage, functionality, and efficiency.
- Analyze problems through data analysis, field engineering, experimentation, and dialog with the cross-functional team, to create more robust designs, reduce callbacks for warranty service, and drive continuous improvement.
- Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering or civil engineering with a structural engineering emphasis. Combined experience and industry educational certifications to demonstrate competency considered.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) required. Additionally, being Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Canada is a plus.
- 10 years of structural engineering experience in the design, modification, and evaluation of building and equipment support structures in industrial and commercial project types.
- Possess good oral and written communication skills and comfortable presenting design solutions to Owners.
- Structural design experience using steel and concrete for ag and industrial projects. Experience with deep and specialty foundations is a plus.
- Experience using Revit, 3D software (Navisworks/Recap), Risa structural engineering design software, and Microsoft Office software is preferred.
- Experience providing direction to junior engineers and designers and collaborating with other disciplines.
- Experience developing and managing client relationships.
- Responsible for the front-end engineering, design phase, planning, and coordinating for construction projects.
- Travel up to 15% or as needed, by air and ground.
- Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly
- Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking.
- Frequently requires standing, fine dexterity, sitting, and handling; typical of office work.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels.
