Full Job Description
We are looking to hire an experienced Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to inspect, test, diagnose, tune, overhaul, repair, service, and maintain our range of heavy-duty construction equipment. Also to detect mechanical and electrical faults, repair and maintain the hydraulic components of engines. As a lead mechanic, you will be responsible for driving to the job site, shop or warehouse, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the construction fleet.
To ensure success as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you should have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues on the job site. Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities:
- Inspecting trucks, cranes, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
- Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment.
- Repairing damaged equipment parts.
- Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms.
- Performing major repair work when necessary.
- Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
- Schedule maintenance for machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears.
- Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
- Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
- Fabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal.
Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proven work experience as a Diesel or Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
- Understanding of computer testing technologies.
- Ability to lift heavy machinery and work in cramped or awkward positions.
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
- Good communication skills.
- Mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
- Good senses (e.g., smell, touch, etc.) - often work with grease, oil, dirt and diesel fuel, and are exposed to fumes and noise
- Problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Be open to learning new techniques and technologies
