POSITION SUMMARY
The Nurse Educator is responsible to train Kelberman staff on how to provide appropriate medical care and treatment to program participants, complete required quality reviews and documentation, support AMAPs, provide quality oversight of medical duties within all Residential sites, provide support for medication administration and tube feeds, and participate in Agency activities and initiatives.
Position Requirements
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
- Train AMAP course on a monthly / bi-monthly basis (to the discretion of Director of Residential Services)
- Certify and re-certify all AMAPs, support AMAPs in successful medication passes / responsibilities.
- Certify and re-certify all special skills like Tube Feeding, Choking Prevention, and Diabetic Care / Injections as licensing allows.
- Train residential staff to monitor and assess program participant's medical concerns.
- Trains all Kelberman staff on CPR (American Red Cross) use of AED's, First Aid, and Epi-pens.
- Teaches infection control and Food Consistencies.
- Teaches and promotes safe patient handling techniques.
- Provide routine and emergency nursing care to program participants as licensing allows.
- Complete all required documentation and reports according to program regulations for the training of staff and may assist in the documentation reviews for program participants' quarterly and annual medical reviews and charts.
- Provide nursing and medical in-services to staff at Kelberman Residences and other programs as necessary.
- Collaborate with physicians and nurse practitioners on medical issues as warranted.
- Review and act on incident reports and provide necessary re-training for staff.
- Provide on-call medication administration and tube feed coverage as needed.
- Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, appointments, trainings, and committees.
- Complete agency quality reviews as warranted.
- Provide quality oversight of medical duties, documentation, treatments, and follow up.
- Perform quality checks amongst IRAs while on site.
- Performs required nursing oversight at Kelberman's 6-week summer camp.
- Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency's culture, values, and mission.
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
- Maintain and regularly compile data and documentation to be reviewed by supervisor as required.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through collaborative teamwork and positive communication in alignment with Kelberman's culture, values, and mission.
- Demonstrate excellent work attendance by being punctual and reliable for all scheduled shifts and meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
- Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements and HIPAA laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
