JOB DESCRIPTION:
Home Care Assistant
Responsible To: The Director of Service and Development, the Liaison, the In Home Care Manager, and the Preceptor.
Education Requirements:
1. High School Diploma or GED, or 1 years work experience
2. Must be able to read and write
Experience Required:
State Certification as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certification as a Home Health Aide (HHA) or Certification as a Medical Assistant, or one year of experience in a hospital or long-term care facility as a Nurse’s Aide.
Position Summary:
A Home Care Assistant is a trained unlicensed paraprofessional worker who is prepared to assist in the care of the client in the home and functions as a substitute for a family member in providing home care on an intermittent or continuous basis for the sick and for the disabled member of the family. The duties of the Home Care Assistant are planned and assigned by the In Home Care Manager or assigned License Nurse to meet the needs of the client and family situation. The Home Care Assistant is committed to agency’s policy of providing the best possible quality of care of each client.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Works under the supervision of the RN,, working hours are established on a case by case basis and are assigned by the Scheduling Coordinator.
2. Provided supportive/personal care services including assistance in the task of daily living to one or more clients in their home in order to enable them to remain at home.
3. Maintains a clean, safe, healthy environment. Performs routine housekeeping tasks.
4. Maintains required records.
5. Prepares meals and, when indicated, prepares a special diet. May assist the client with eating.
6. Performs personal care and grooming which may include the following: bath, hair care, nail care, skin care, and oral hygiene.
7. Assist the Client, for example; from wheelchair to bed or chair, etc. using proper body mechanics.
8. Performs normal range of motion, positioning, and walking using proper body mechanics.
9. Promotes mental alertness of the client.
10. Demonstrates sensitivity to Client’s physical, emotional, social and mental health needs.
11. Demonstrates respect for the Client’s rights as an individual.
12. Practices universal precautions and is knowledgeable of basis infection control.
13. Recognizes and reports and significant change in Client’s condition to the Personal Care Manager.
14. Assists Clients in attending and maintaining functional independence to the extent possible.
Qualifications:
1. Demonstrates good personal habits.
2. Must be able to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
3. Must have dependable transportation to assure reliability in carrying out assignments.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 12 hour shift
- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
