SUMMARY :

Assist the Head Band Director with managing the instrumental music and band program at assigned campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and provide an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross-functional work groups.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Strategies

  • Assist with directing instrumental performers, including marching band, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.
  • Assist with establishing performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
  • Assist the Head Band Director to provide band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and University Interscholastic League (UIL).
  • Assist with development and implementation plans that fulfill the requirements of the District’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Board policies, and Administrative Regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education Teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person learning that fulfill the requirements of District’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
