SUMMARY :
Drives gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination / straight truck to transport and deliver petroleum products, from the assigned terminal or various points in the state of Illinois and Wisconsin. Operates all loading and unloading equipment to meet customer requirements while adhering to all applicable company, federal, and state safety rules and regulations.
DUTIES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Successful completion of activities including all written documents being completed accurately and promptly, and loads being delivered in good condition and on schedule, meeting all DOT Safety Rules and Regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :
- Report to dispatch at specified time and maintains contact with the dispatch office as required.
- Drives truck to destinations, ensuring timely and safe delivery of product.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Maintains driver log according to DOT / ICC regulations. Completes daily logs and all necessary trip reports, fuel reports, damage reports, and other paperwork required by the company, to be turned in as instructed.
- Becomes familiar with and complies with the proper methods of loading and unloading the various liquid products and package goods to be transported.
- Follows company guidelines in regard to acceptable conduct when dealing with customers, fellow employees and the motoring public.
- Reads and speaks the English language in accordance with Section 391.11(b)(2) of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Becomes familiar with and complies with all applicable federal, state, local, and company rules and regulations that are in accordance with the accepted principles of the safe operation of a tractor trailer / tank wagon motor vehicle.
- Performs vehicle inspections under Section 396.11 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition at the end of each shift. Inspects truck equipment and supplies according to the Vehicle Inspection Report.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY :
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) : Class B is required and Class A is preferred, and other appropriate endorsements (such as tanker and hazmat) and state requirements, to be carried in truck cab while driver is in service.
