This is a regular, full-time, tenure-track position. Work schedule is defined by the faculty contract, currently at 166 days. Work may require day and evening hours at various locations during the fall and spring semesters with an expectation of regular campus presence. Potential for teaching summer courses also exists. This position may work evenings at one of KCC's center locations during the fall and spring semesters.
Position Summary
Kellogg Community College is recruiting for a dynamic, highly motivated individual with strong teaching and leadership skills to assume the role of Instructor for the Electricity/Electronics and Mechatronics Program primarily at KCC's Eastern Academic Center (EAC) in Albion, Michigan, but also with the potential for serving other instructional locations in KCC's service region.
In addition to key responsibilities, the candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the community college role in the educational continuum, as well as for the needs of the student population we serve. The candidate will be expected to participate in recruiting activities to increase the number of students served at the EAC. A holistic and forward-thinking approach with a keen ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships, strategically think and successfully implement change are requirements of the person who will assume this faculty role for the College. This is a full-time faculty position reporting to the Executive Director, Regional Manufacturing Technology Center (RMTC), Industrial Trades and Workforce Solutions.

Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in a manufacturing training center which may have loud noises, temperature changes, atmospheric conditions such as odors, dust, and gases and operating machinery. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required; such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, climbing, grasping, pushing pulling, reaching, and lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (50 - 75 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity such as seeing or talking. Occasional close visual acuity may be necessary for inspection of projects. Must meet reasonable deadlines, standards for accuracy and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Journeyman card from the State of Michigan or Office of Apprenticeship (OA) certificate or Bachelor's degree in related area
- Two (2) years of work experience in electricity/electronics and/or mechatronics
- Demonstrated competency in training others in electrical trade or related skill trade area
- Evidence of proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Evidence of successfully working with a diverse population
Preferred but not Required
- Master Electrician
- Extensive years of work experience in electricity/electronics, mechatronics, and/or integrated/automated production line systems
- Teaching experience of high school students and adult learners, preferably in a community college electricity/electronics and/or mechatronics program
- Experience with curriculum design, delivery and assessment
- Experience with developing and operating an educational program of study to meet employer needs
- Experience with face-to-face, online, and hybrid teaching/learning methods
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated high level of communication effectiveness-both verbal and written
Proposed Salary

Job Duties
Essential Function: INSTRUCTION
- Description:Provide instruction in individualized learning within a flexible schedule format according to the policies and practices of Kellogg Community College (KCC).
- Coordinate Lab activities with didactic content to provide a rich learning experience.
- Submit student grades and course records according to determined college policies and deadlines.
- Supervise students as they participate in lab.
Essential Function: RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND COMPLETION
- Description:Reach out to advise, mentor and remediate students in need to encourage retention and completion.
- Assist in new student orientations.
- Develop strategies intended to improve program access, student success, cost efficiency, and Perkins Core Performance Indicators.
- Commitment to the advancement of outcomes related to special populations outlined by Perkins.
Essential Function: CURRICULUM & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Description:Develop curriculum and prepare course materials in Electricity/Electronics/Mechatronics in accordance with accreditation and best practices.
- Determine course outcomes and develop learning activities and assessments.
- Engage regularly with employers in the field of Electricity/Electronics/Mechatronics, and as emerging related industries to ensure that current and relevant curriculum necessary for the contemporary workforce is maintained.
- Active participation in syllabi review and uploading through WIDS.
- Complete assessment responsibilities as it relates to accreditation standards outlined by Kellogg Community College.
- Participate in institutional professional development training including but not limited to online teaching/learning and instructional design/delivery.
Essential Function: COLLABORATION & PROGRAM COORDINATION
- Description:Participate in planning and executing a robust advisory committee to guide the future of the Electricity/Electronics/ Mechatronics programs.
- Engage with administration and colleagues in recruiting and mentoring appropriate adjunct faculty.
- Coordinating the ordering of supplies.
- Collaborate with colleagues and administration to establish lab schedules that meet student and employer needs.
- Engage with administration and colleagues to identify equipment, program improvements and professional development strategies that qualify for Perkins funding and participate in submitting the grant request as required.
- Seek out partnerships with internal colleagues, local business and industry, K-12 school systems, career centers and other post-secondary education institutions in efforts to enhance enrollment, provide rich and efficient learning experiences, and create educational pathways. This includes representing the College and Industrial Trades programs at community activities and during campus visits and tours.
- Assume leadership role in Electricity/Electronics/Mechatronics.
- Maintain a data driven continuous quality improvement process to ensure program effectiveness.
- Lead in the maintenance, repair and cleanliness of training equipment and of the overall condition of the Electricity/Electronics/Mechatronics lab space.
- Maintain current and relevant knowledge and expertise in Electricity/Electronics/Mechatronics curricular content and technical skills, as well as best practices in educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
- Participate in establishing/growing apprenticeship programming.
- Seek out and engage in college activities and initiatives that help to advance the mission.
- Serve on committees and workgroups providing leadership to some.
