What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinarian (PRN) position at Kelly?
Kelly Government Solutions is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. We are seeking an as-needed/backup Veterinarian to support our federal partner in Frederick County, MD. This position is projected to be part-time and will support a hybrid schedule depending upon the needs of the facility.
BACKGROUND:
ARPA-H plays a pivotal role in identifying and funding groundbreaking biomedical and health projects that exceed the scope of traditional research efforts and commercial activities.
TASKS/SERVICES:
As the backup veterinarian, in times when both the Attending Veterinarian and the Senior Clinical Veterinarian are not available, you will be responsible for providing veterinary medical care to all animals housed in the facility. The Center invests in scientific programs that are critical to national defense against bioterrorism. Specific activities include:
- Be available by telephone (i.e., on-call) 24/7 during mutually agreed upon dates determined by the NBACC Comparative Medicine veterinarians.
- Provide telephone consultation to NBACC Comparative Medicine animal care staff on appropriate observations and treatments of medical conditions identified during daily health observations.
- Provide veterinary medical clinical care (on-site or provide verbal or written direction) for conventional, ABSL-2, ABSL-3, and ABSL-4 animals when needed. Access to the building and animal holding areas will be escorted access with a veterinary
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
- Active veterinary license in at least one U.S. state
- American Veterinary Medical Association approved board certification in at least one of the following fields: Laboratory Animal Medicine; Veterinary Pathology; or Veterinary Preventive Medicine
- Minimum of 10 years training and experience in laboratory animal science and medicine in the care of the species being used (including, but not limited to, mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, small ruminants, swine, and nonhuman primates (NHPs))
- Experience in veterinary pathology is also highly desirable.
- Minimum of six years (combined) of ABSL-3 and -4 specific experience and be knowledgeable with the requirements of the current edition of Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories. Subcontractor must have demonstrated abilities with surgical techniques (e.g., digit amputations, suturing superficial wounds, post-surgical wound management) and clinical cases.
- Subcontractor must be well-versed in infectious disease research studies with a wide array of agents, especially utilizing NHPs
- Knowledge of imaging procedures and aerosol routes of exposure are desirable.
- Must be experienced with managing laboratory housed NHPs and knowledgeable with environmental enrichment techniques to prevent or mitigate self-injurious behavior.
- It is desirable to have experience as a participating or alternate member of an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
