PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provide an individualized, functional educational program based upon assessment of individual students for a class of developmentally disabled students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a valid California Specialist Credential-Severely Handicapped or equivalent.
Possess the ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, staff and community members.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
Kelseyville High School Principal and Director of Special Education.
Immediate Subordinate:
Special Education Aides
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Be proficient in assessing individual student performance in the areas of pre-academic, academic, self-help, psychomotor, language, pre-vocational/vocational and social/emotional development.
2. Develop Individualized Educational Programs based upon student assessment and serve as a member of the I.E.P. Team
3. Organize the classroom and instructional programs to implement individualized education programs.
4. Establish and maintain appropriate student behavior through effective behavior modification techniques.
5. Work with regular classroom teachers and district staff to establish and maintain appropriate mainstreaming experiences.
6. Arrange opportunities for inverse mainstreaming.
7. When appropriate, work with community members to provide work experience opportunities.
8. Train and supervise Special Education Aides and volunteers.
9. Communicate and coordinate with parents the goals and progress of the student, as needed.
10. Complete all required paperwork in an accurate, neat and timely manner.
11. Possess knowledge of applicable state and federal law and inter-agency agreements.
12. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Possess an Education Specialist teaching credential, moderate/severe or ESN (or meet the qualifications for an ed. spec. permit), as well as an EL authorization. Possess the ability to work positively and effectively with students, families, school personnel, and other community agencies. Position may also require some lifting.
