Job Summary
The job of "Nutritional Services Helper" is done for the purpose/s of preparing and distributing food items for consumption by students and school personnel and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.
Essential Job Functions
- Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures
- Cleans utensils, equipment and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions
- Ensures foods reach and maintain proper temperatures and are entered into log book for the purpose of meeting mandated food safety requirements and for the safety of our students and staff
- Estimates food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste
- Inspects one or more items of food and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
- Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirements
- Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals
- Reports equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order
- Reports any accidents or injuries immediately to the Nutritional Services Manager for the purpose of maintaining a safe work environment
- Serves one or more items of foods for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel
- Stocks food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Bakes one or more items of baked goods for the purpose of providing food items to meet projected meal requirements
- Performs all other duties and participates in meetings and in-service offerings as required for the purpose of keeping abreast of current information in this field
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
- Experience Required:
- Prior job related experience in food preparation, serving and basic kitchen activities
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
- Skills to perform basic arithmetic calculations, adjust recipes to various quantity demands, operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment, and computer skills
- Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles, and nutritional and safety requirements
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, supervise students, and work as a team member with students and co-workers. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, balancing, stooping, reaching/handling/finger dexterity, talking/hearing conversations and other sounds (potential hazards), visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation
- Education Required:
- High school diploma and/or equivalent; prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Complete district administered achievement test to demonstrate abilities in the area of mathematics, spelling and pronunciation
- Other Specialized Requirements:
- Appropriate Food Handler Permit and Hepatitis A vaccines are required. A neat, clean personal appearance and appropriate attire is expected. Must have regular and consistent attendance
