What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machine Operator position at Kelvion Products Inc?
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the CNC Operator is to ensure that job orders are properly and safely fabricated. The operator will use basic measuring tools to measure product being made according to print and complete any necessary paperwork, then run the CNC Machine based on the Engineer drawings. The Operator verifies that parts are properly programmed to run with like materials on daily production runs. The primary job responsibilities of the Operator are to support production needs. The Operator will maintain correlation between print revision levels and current programs to ensure that the most current parts are being made. To be consistent with lean manufacturing practices and JIT, the Operator will create parts to be consistent with production run sizes. The operator will complete daily PM, 6S, and all proper paperwork and ensure that only the highest quality is allowed to move on to the next process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program daily production orders
- Be able to operate machines needed to fabricate copper parts to print
- Complete general preventative maintenance on machines, as needed
- Sign off on all routers, fill out daily PM sheets, and all other essential paperwork (scrap tickets, material substitution forms, JIT forms)
- Measure all parts according to print and ensure non-conforming parts do not leave the area
- Use the correct tooling to fabricate parts according to prints, routers and machine instructions
- Will ensure jobs are prioritized and programmed accordingly in support of the open order report
- Ensure CNC machines are properly utilized though optimizing programs and daily production runs
- Ensure all orders are programed and realized in a timely manner
- Ensure all programs are ran to optimal lot size to minimize overruns and excess material
- Work with design engineers and quality department to revise prints or report discrepancies on the router or bill of material
- Strive to reduce scrap by running jobs, and work to improve the material utilization percentages
- Coordinate with the operator and supervisor daily kits, insure enough parts are available to fully utilize time and equipment of production
- Follow process control plans, routings, and work instructions
- Work according to IATF 16949 guidelines and work instructions
- Work necessary overtime to ensure proper support as needed
- Maintain a low level of scrap in accordance with Kelvion standards
- Must have the ability to become company-certified in overhead crane usage. Company cranes are controlled remotely from the ground.

REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
- Ability to comprehend routings, bill of materials, and work instructions
- Ability to program CNC equipment (i.e. mill, turret, and lathe)
- Proven ability programming machinery.
- Ability to use MS Office and other computer programs
- Self-motivated, reliable, and a coach
- Good analytical problem-solving skills
- Exhibit good interpersonal skills and team oriented
- Knowledge of MRP systems is a plus
- Dependable, wiliness to follow instructions, and hard working
- Exposure to geometric tolerance a plus
- Ability to deal with change and respond quickly to a fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn different soft wares and equipment
- Show attention to detail
- Prior exposure to Lean-Manufacturing environment preferred
- Ability to read a tape measure and other measuring devices
- Ability to operate a forklift
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)
- 1-2 years prior CNC Operating experience.
