General Production Laborer

General Laborer at wood flooring sawmill and finishing operation located in BEAVERTON, Michigan.

• Assist sawmill equipment operators perform various tasks essential to the smooth operation of the production lines personnel
• Laborers role is the ability to perform in a fast pace production line.
• Able to stand for long periods of time.
• Willing to work well with others in a close working environment.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks and learn new skills.
• Ability to show up on time and work your scheduled shift on a regular basis
• Pass a 10 Panel Drug Screen - including negative for marijuana

Job Duties

• Load and unload kilns
• Position pallets of material to stretch wrap equipment
• Sort lumber by size and other characteristics and place on carts
• Assist with cleaning debris both during the day and end of shift
• Sorting and guiding planks emerging from saw onto roller tables or conveyors for trimming
• Straighten lumber on moving conveyors.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide
• Read a tap measure
• Lift and twist while moving lumber
• Work well with others
• Read and comprehend simple instructions and write simple correspondence
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be safety conscience and team oriented
• Must have negative pre-employment drug screen and pass background check

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work environment is primarily indoors; ambient temperature, noisey environment, subject to saw dust. Temperatures can become warm in the summer months.
• Work wear attire should be jeans and sleeved shirt; no baggy ripped or torn clothing and no jewelry for safety. We supply the safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats.
• Safety toe boots area required.
• Job involves standing for long periods of time.
• Production machines create loud noises – ear protection must be used.
• Exposure to handling wood boards and minimal wood dust.
• Use of overhead equipment so hard hats are a must.

Physical demands-This is a physically demanding job. Worker will bend, twist, squat, grasp, push/pull using waist, arms, shoulders and wrists to perform a variety of tasks. Standing, kneeling and or walking continuously. Lift, push, pull and carry up to 60lbs frequently.

Mental demands- Must be able to concentrate and stay alert in a noisy fast pace environment, meet production requirements and exercise independent judgment to determine what action needs to be taken to maintain the quality standards of the facility.

Skills- Must be safety minded, able to follow instruction and perform the physical requirements of the job.

Communication skills- Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written directions.

Must be ableto communicate with supervisor and coworkers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
