Job Title: Equestrian Center Assistant Manager
Reports To: Equestrian Center Manager
Starting Pay Range: $60,000 - $80,000 Annually, paid on a bi-weekly basis
Employment Classification: Regular Full-Time - Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Equestrian Center Assistant Manager supports the daily operation of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian Center to ensure quality horse care, a safe and well-maintained facility, and an excellent experience for boarders, riding school participants, and community members. This position assists the Equestrian Center Manager with staff supervision, equine health management, financial operations, facility maintenance, and customer service. The Assistant Manager serves as the acting manager in the absence of the Equestrian Center Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and managing barn staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality horse care.
- Direct and assist staff (as needed) in the daily care of the horses to include feeding and watering the horses and cleaning the facility.
- Assist with billing and invoicing for boarders and riding school students.
- Partner with the EQC Manager to maintain related paperwork such as boarding agreements, trailer agreements, sub-lease agreements, waiting lists, etc.
- Partner with the EQC Manager to maintain spreadsheets related to safety training, vehicle insurance, boarder contact, work order requests, etc.
- Partner with the EQC Manager to maintain the appropriate inventory of supplies and materials needed to provide quality care and stay within budget guidelines.
- Interface with independent trainers who conduct their professional service businesses on-site. Ensure that trainers conduct their operations under the policies and procedures of the KCRMA and the Equestrian Center.
- Partner with EQC Manager in supervising the Ken-Caryl Riding School Manager to ensure lessons, horse shows, and special events are conducted safely and efficiently. Support the Riding School Manager in providing care for the Riding School owned horses.
- Assist in maintenance and repairs to the facility to include fencing, automatic watering systems, barns, and arena care.
- Overall landscape maintenance for appearance, defensible fire space, and pest and animal controls. This work needs to be done in a safe and efficient manner, providing quality work to position the Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center as a top-rated barn. Maintenance and repair work may be done by staff or outside contractors.
- Direct and assist in maintenance and repairs to work-related equipment to include tractors, trailers, arena groomers, etc.
- Collaborate with the EQC Manager with developing, publishing, and training on a wide variety of emergency procedures on a regular basis. These include checking on fire suppression systems, physical site security systems (gates, locks, perimeters, and property storage), and first response procedures for critical situations.
- Act as the point of contact in the Equestrian Center Manager’s absence, ensuring the facility operates smoothly and efficiently.

Requirements:REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing a barn, equestrian center, or riding facility is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of equine care, health management, and facility operations.
- Experience in a multi-disciplinary environment with knowledge of trail riding, hunters/jumpers, western, and dressage is desirable.
- Ability to engage daily with equestrian center users, residents, non-resident boarders, veterinarians, farriers, and equine professionals. Must handle issues and complaints promptly while maintaining transparency in daily activities, seasonal operations, and long-term planning.
- Expertise in equine wellness, including assessing water quality, feed supplies, and footing conditions (drainage, grade, and materials) for all areas of the facility. Must be capable of identifying and addressing hazards immediately.
- Work closely with the EQC Manager and Executive Director to define and prioritize operational tasks, create schedules, and ensure successful execution. Performance will be evaluated based on safety adherence, budget compliance, work quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist the EQC Manager and Executive Director in preparing and managing the Equestrian Center budget for Board approval.
- Develop and implement clear communication strategies to keep boarders, staff, and residents informed about center activities.
- Review and negotiate contracts with external vendors, ensuring infrastructure and supply procurement aligns with the Master Association’s procurement guidelines.
- Collaborate with the EQC Manager and Executive Director to establish a long-term strategic vision for the Center, focusing on continuous improvements and enhanced value for KCRMA members.
- Organize community outreach efforts to promote understanding of the Center’s role as both a residential amenity and an educational hub. This may include internships, events, and engagement opportunities for boarders and residents.
- Regularly review and update emergency evacuation plans, safety protocols, and barn operation procedures.
- Possess a basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and waste management systems. Familiarity with operating farm machinery, carpentry tools, and maintenance equipment is preferred.
- Customer service experience with an ability to build positive relationships with boarders and community members.
- Ability to promptly assess situations and notify authorities in emergencies or critical situations.
- Possess a Certification in CPR or willingness to obtain certification upon hiring.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to address issues diplomatically and tactfully.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic work environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.

- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. The Assistant Manager is expected to be on-site 40 hours per week, with scheduled office hours clearly communicated.

- Must have a current, valid Colorado Driver’s License and must be insurable with KCRMA’s insurance carrier.

WORK AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to the Equestrian Center.

- Exposures encountered, such as hazardous materials, loud noise, or extreme heat/cold.
- Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.
