Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District offers a wide range of park recreation activities and facilities, a fitness center, three tennis facilities, three outdoor aquatic facilities, 120 acres of greenbelts, and 19 miles of trails. The District also provides a broad range of recreation programs and special events for children and adults of all ages, including before- and after-school programs, nature programs, summer camps, wellness programs, preschool, and tennis.

Salary Range: $21.20-$24.42, per hour, depending on experience

About the Job

Under the direction of the Aquatics and Community Supervisor, the Staff Supervisor-Aquatics will directly oversee Lifeguards to ensure the daily operations of the pool facilities run safely and efficiently. The Staff Supervisor-Aquatics is the front-line aquatics leader responsible for ensuring guards provide safe and clean aquatic facilities for our community. This position directly oversees safety, staff, and daily functions at our three seasonal pools. Daily hours range from 11:30AM- 7:30PM with some hours slightly earlier or later for special events or swim meets. This position requires working at least one weekend day per week throughout the summer.

Ideal Candidate

Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Aquatics Safety professional to join our team as a Staff Supervisor. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for providing exceptional customer service to our community and will excel in leading, coaching, and supervising a team of aquatics staff. Key qualifications include proven experience in aquatics safety, including lifeguarding, water safety instruction, and pool operations; demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a strong commitment to customer service; flexibility and availability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings; and a strong work ethic. Bonus points will be given to candidates with experience in aquatics programming (swim lessons, swim team, special events), and supervisory experience in a recreational setting.


Essential Functions

The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Aquatics Staff Supervisor and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.

  • Supervise Aquatics Staff: Lead, coach, and mentor lifeguards, ensuring vigilance and safety in the pool area. Correct issues immediately and maintain high standards of care.
  • Staff Support: Ensure lifeguards are executing Starguard Elite’s standard of care and completing daily documentation, inspections, and maintaining facility cleanliness.
  • In-Service Training: Lead in-service training and ensure all lifeguards complete 4 hours of training per month.
  • Emergency Response: Lead staff in emergency situations and provide assistance until emergency services arrive.
  • Pool Maintenance: Supervise pool cleanliness, including restroom upkeep, pool skimming, trash removal, and general facility care.
  • Schedule Coordination: Assist in adjusting weekly schedules, ensuring adequate staff coverage.
  • Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for patrons, handling inquiries, challenges, and customer service issues professionally.
  • Team Building: Plan and implement team-building activities and incentive programs to motivate staff.
  • Performance Reviews: Conduct bi-weekly performance reviews for assigned staff.
  • Collaboration with SwimLabs: Work with SwimLabs Littleton instructors to ensure they have the resources needed for swim lessons.
  • Professional Image: Promote a positive and professional image of the District at all times, delivering excellent customer service.


Positions Supervised

Staff Supervisor-Aquatics oversees and provides shared work directions to approximately 50 Lifeguards and Guest service staff. All Staff Supervisors will collectively oversee 8 guest service staff.

A. The Ranch House Staff Supervisor will supervise 25 guards directly

B. The Community Center Staff Supervisor will supervise 25 guards directly

C. Bradford's Staff Supervisor will supervise 8 guards directly.

D. Floating Staff Supervisors will supervise guards directly at the pool they are assigned for that shift.

Requirements:


A. Provides direct supervision of Aquatics staff and acts as a leader, coach, and mentor to staff during day-to-day operations including:

o Supervises Lifeguard 10/20 scanning, vigilance, and StarGuard Elite’s standard of care; corrects any issues immediately to ensure visitor and staff safety above all other duties

o Support lifeguards in ensuring they are providing supervision and surveillance of all patrons in the pool area and pool deck. Always enforces pool rules and policies; ensures lifeguards utilize appropriate communication devices such as whistles, hand signals, and written and spoken words; ensures lifeguards complete daily and required documentation and inspections legibly and professionally.

o Required to ensure that all lifeguarding staff complete 4 hours of Inservice a month. In addition, required to teach at least one, two hour, in-service a month.

o Leads staff in emergency situations; assists lifeguarding staff in providing emergency care and treatment until EMS arrives.

o Ensures lifeguards complete all assigned maintenance duties to provide a clean and safe facility; performs and supervises pool maintenance duties including but not limited: to regular cleaning of bathrooms, baskets and filters, vacuuming, and skimming the pool, cleaning deck and grass areas, emptying trash receptacles, and caring for the overall cleanliness of the facility.

o Documents staff challenges and assists with disciplinary action.

o Proficient lifeguarding skills and ability to coach staff to exceed industry standards

o Assists in adjusting weekly schedules for staff and ensures shifts are adequately staffed and the proper number of Lifeguards are covering pool surveillance;

B. Be the main point of contact for pool patron inquiries and challenges. Interacts with customers in a professional and knowledgeable manner regarding emergencies, safety, violations, and other customer service issues

C. Reacts calmly and immediately to emergency situations and administers proper care,

D. Plan and implement team-building activities and incentive programs

E. Maintain excellent lifeguarding skills and knowledge of Starguard Elite Policies and procedures.

F. Proficient at meeting deadlines set by Aquatics and Community Supervisor.

G. Works with SwimLabs Littleton instructors to ensure they have all necessary resources to conduct swim lessons*Ranch House and Community Center only

H. Consistently promotes a positive, professional image of the District and always provides excellent customer service.

I. Required to cover Lifeguard shifts when short staffed.

J. Performs bi-weekly performance reviews for assigned staff and files the appropriate documentation for each review by the determined deadlines.

K. Has a proficient understanding of our point-of-sale platform and assists Aquatics Guest Service staff when necessary, providing support with admissions.

L. Communicates all pertinent information on a regular basis to the Aquatics and Community Supervisor.

M. Attend all required meetings


Required Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A minimum of two-year experience in staff management or any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for excellent job performance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possess skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving as well as an understanding of our standard operating procedures and Emergency Action Plans.
  • Effective and clear written and oral communicator with a variety of audiences including staff, the community, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work a schedule that will include evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays as conditions or programming schedules might dictate; Must have the ability to be flexible and be able to adapt to changing daily schedules based on timelines and facility needs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job.
  • Working in a variety of locations and sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with District employees, volunteers, the community, public agencies, and the private sector.
  • Ability to understand and direct staff to perform emergency care and treatment at test ready levels and ensure that staff does the same through unannounced drills, ongoing trainings, and direct coaching.
  • Basic knowledge of pump room operations and preventative maintenance.

Special Requirements:

  • CPR/First Aid, and AED.
  • Must be available to work 36-40 hours a week for the duration of the season (May 28-Sept 5); must be available to work 25-35 hours the week of May 23 to prepare assigned facility for opening. Must be available to assist with training aquatics staff one weekend and evenings beginning in April.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and be insurable by the District’s insurance carrier by maintaining an acceptable driving record.

Work and Physical Requirements:

Working Environment

  • Moderate physical activity will be required frequently.
  • Work will be required outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.
  • Use of sensory activities, such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision will be required frequently.
  • Work will involve periods of high physical, mental and/or emotional stress.

Physical Requirements

  • Have ability to lift, move and carry objects more than fifty (50) pounds frequently.
  • Have ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, lift, squat, push, pull, crawl, jump, slide, climb, pinch, grip, reach overhead, reach away from body, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
