Job Summary
Under the direction and guidance of the Education and School Engagement Supervisor, the Lead Culture Instructor is responsible for the development of a cultural curriculum and corresponding thematic units grounded in the principles of STEAM, implementing effective teaching strategies that immerse students in the Dena'ina culture, language, and values. The Lead Culture Instructor will serve as the lead teacher for the Naqut'ana cultural enrichment program and will establish internal and external partnerships that will provide for experiential and place-based learning opportunities. The Lead Culture Instructor will provide academic and cultural support and mentorship to youth within the Kenaitze Department of Education.
Essential Functions
- Provides supervision and direction for youth participating in the Tribe's youth programs, including summer camps, Native Youth Olympics, Jabila'ina Dance Group, and Del Dumi Drum Group
- Works as a team member with Yaghanen staff as directed to insure cultural programming is appropriately reflected
- Collaborates to develop cultural curriculum with thematic units that align with the academic and cultural focus of other programs within the Kenaitze Education department
- Serves as the lead teacher for the Naqut'ana cultural enrichment program
- Oversees the programming and scheduling of afterschool activities and lessons
- Maintains accurate documentation in the data management system, including maintaining attendance records
- Transports students and items (including lifting & driving) for Yaghanen programs
- Communicates with parent/guardians of students enrolled in Yaghanen programs
- Establishes internal and external partnerships for the purpose of providing experiential and place-based learning opportunities for students in Yaghanen programs
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
- Associates degree or a combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree
Experience
- Three (3) years experience mentoring youth and working with youth programs
Preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
- Bachelors degree with a focus in education
- Type A teaching certificate from the state of Alaska
- Experience in program development and implementation
- Experience in developing and maintaining community partnerships
License/Certification
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, (or obtain within 90 days of hire)
- Must have Pediatric/Adult First Aid/CPR, or obtain within 90 days of hire

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
