Job Summary
Design, install, configure, maintain, and optimize network services for ongoing Tribal operations. This includes local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs), by managing network hardware, software, and security to ensure smooth data flow and connectivity for users. Tasks include troubleshooting network issues, monitoring performance, managing user access, and implementing security updates. Provides advanced support to computer users who need assistance with software, hardware, network connections, peripherals, databases, telephone systems, and a wide range of IT services.
Essential Functions
- Assess network needs, design network architecture, and select appropriate hardware and software. Install and configure network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, and servers
- Monitor network performance, identify and resolve network issues, perform routine maintenance tasks
- Implement network security measures, manage user access controls, and monitor for potential security threats
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity problems, hardware failures, and software conflicts
- Implement and maintain data backup procedures to ensure data integrity in case of system failures
- Provide technical assistance to users regarding network access, connectivity issues, and application problems
- Install and manage network software updates and patches
- Forecast future network needs and plan for capacity upgrades
- Maintain comprehensive network documentation including network diagrams, configuration details, and troubleshooting guides
- Work with the Systems Manager and other staff as necessary to document common problems and solutions to help reduce preventable calls, and attend staff meetings and training as required
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
- Associate's degree in computer science or a technology-related field, or a combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree
Experience
- Experience with network design implementation and troubleshooting
- Experience with rules based firewalls and Multi-vendor routing, switching (Fortinet, Cisco, Watchguard)
- Experience with computer hardware and peripherals, ancillary systems and devices
- Support of email security and endpoint protection client software
- Ethernet switching technologies (creation and support of VLANs, Etherchannel, Spanning Tree, etc.)
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Windows 10/11 and Linux operating systems
- Experience with Microsoft SQL and other database systems
Preferred
- Knowledge of network security best practices and threat mitigation strategies.
- Knowledge of computer & networking technology in both the wired and wireless fields preferred
- CompTIA A and Network ; Microsoft MCT, VMware VCTAm, VCP; Cisco CCT, CCNA, Fortinet FCP
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
License/Certification
- Must have valid Alaska State Driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe policy
Special Skills
