Job Summary
The Program Assistant is responsible for greeting parents, children and visitors to the Kahtnuht'ana Duhdeldiht Campus in a friendly, professional, and helpful way including monitoring access to the building by visitors and ensuring all visitors and volunteers sign in and out. The Program Assistant is responsible for answering and routing calls, coordinating incoming and outgoing mail, providing support, handling inquiries from the public, and providing information related to the Tribe and Campus.
Essential Functions
- Greets all un'ina (i.e. children, families, staff, visitors, etc.) in a friendly, caring manner. Listens and positively responds to request for information or assistance
- Works collaboratively with other assistant positions
- Regular upkeep of the lobby/waiting area
- Provide clerical support to all program areas as needed (i.e. faxing, copying, filing, phone calls)
- Develop and maintain procedure list for the Program Assistant position
- Data entry of enrolled students/families into database system
- Monitors and maintains volunteer notebook and visitor sign in/sign out sheets
- Weekly prepare classroom sign in/sign out sheets; maintain parent call-in log notebook
- Assure that each child is delivered to the care of a responsible adult and that this adult is authorized to receive the child. Screens visitors prior to allowing entry into offices and classrooms and maintains the Emergency Release book (accurate signatures are obtained and copies are distributed timely)

Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or General Degree (GED)
Experience
- One year (1) of experience of clerical experience, ability to type 40 wpm
License/Certification
- Pediatric CPR & First Aide certification or obtain within 30 days of employment
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
Special Skills
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook, and experience working with computer database information system
- Strong interpersonal communication and organization skills
- Knowledge of filing systems and ability to file
- Ability to operate various office machines; multiple line phone system, fax, photocopy, postage, laminating machine
- Understand of family centered philosophy; ability and desire to work with families and their young children
- Willingness to learn the language, culture and history of the Dena'ina people
- Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Preferred
- Experience in Head Start/Former Head Start Parent
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
