Job Summary

This position is responsible for preparing proposals and related documents required to apply for funding opportunities from government agencies and private foundations, researching and coordinating data collected by Kenaitze programs and other reputable sources, supervising and supporting the Grant Writers on staff, and assisting the Grant Services Manager and other administrative, programmatic, and executive staff in resource development, needs assessment, data coordination and research, and technical writing to support the mission of the Tribe.

Essential Functions

  • Hire, mentor, develop, and delegate writing and research tasks to Grant Writers.ad funding opportunity solicitations for the critical details required to submit a complete grant application, and clearly communicate those requirements to programs interested in fielding a grant application
  • Work closely, effectively, and professionally with programmatic, administrative, and executive staff to transform their ideas into funding proposals
  • Write each proposal in the style and format that most effectively responds to the solicitation requirements
  • Draft proposals, budgets, resolutions, letters, agreements, and other documents required for a complete application in a timely manner, allowing sufficient time for proofing and quality review ahead of deadlines
  • Respond effectively, appropriately, and professionally to inquiries and/or suggestions from a variety of stakeholders in a cross-cultural environment, both in person and in writing
  • Analyze funding solicitations to identify competition parameters and complete a Kickoff form used to schedule the Kickoff meeting where invitees discuss whether to pursue those opportunities
  • Identify, locate, select, organize, interpret, and properly cite data and/or research for use in grant applications
  • Support Grant Services Manager and Grants Team activities as needed with materials used to present at director, committee, Tribal Council and/or other stakeholder meetings regularly and as requested
  • Work with Tribal Council and programmatic, administrative, and executive staff to translate strategic planning, needs assessment, and other enterprise-level meetings into technical documents needed for accreditation, certification, and other purposes

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, creative or technical writing, or related field where research and/or writing is a primary epistemic tool.

Experience

  • Three to five years of grant writing experience preferred

License/Certification

  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire, or, with approval of the hiring manager, sign a *Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in lieu of having a driver's license to perform the required duties of the position (If Applicable)

Special Skills

  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills - writing sample required.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel when required for research and training.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate a variety of data.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.

Preferred

  • Grant writing experience for a tribal entity
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
