Position Title: Coach-Mentor
Reports to: Sports & Recreation Director
Department: Sports & Recreation
The Kenan Center in Lockport, NY has expanded its sports and recreation programming for youth in our community. We are currently seeking Coach-Mentors to support our lead instructors in inspiring, teaching, and encouraging young athletes through a variety of programs.
As a Youth Sports Coach-Mentor, you’ll play an essential role in helping participants grow—not just in athletic ability, but in character. You'll foster personal development, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and create a supportive, fun and inclusive environment for every child.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Coach-mentor in various Kenan Acres programs.
- Follow Acres curriculum based on the sport, created by Kenan Sports & Recreation department.
- Create an encouraging and inclusive atmosphere that promotes respect, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor to youth participants.
- Collaborate with our full-time Sports & Recreation staff to deliver fun, engaging, and age-appropriate programming.
- Engage with participants, including youth, families, and community members to ensure a safe, healthy, positive, and inclusive experience.
- Stay current on best practices in youth coaching, mentoring, and safety protocols.
- Help ensure the smooth operation of the Kenan Arena during programming hours.
- Assist with administrative tasks, such as scheduling, registration, and maintaining participant records.
- Support facility management, including setup and breakdown of sports equipment and recreational spaces (e.g., classrooms, fields, or courts).
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Kenan Center’s Acres programs.

Job Type: Part-time
Schedule: Weekly hours will vary slightly but stay consistent throughout each program session. Most shifts will fall between Tuesday–Thursday (5–9 PM) and Saturday mornings. Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic and personal commitments.
