About the Position
The Solutions Design Engineer role requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, effective communication, and adaptability to support the organization's objectives in the field of warehousing design engineering.
The main objective (but not limited to) of this role is to respond to the customer RFP (Request for Proposal) with an effective logistics solution design through data analytics, innovative MHE (Material Handling Equipment) solution, understanding of IT WMS (Warehouse Management System) functionality, knowledge of Operations, and the ability to present/correspond directly to the Customer effectively and succinctly.
FUNCTIONS
This role involves a mix of technical skills, project management, and interpersonal abilities with following key functions and qualifications:
Warehouse Design:
- Data analysis: capable to use different analytics tools (MS Excel, MS Access, Power BI, SQL…) to translate line level data or high-level data to warehouse design criteria.
- Capable to select and right size the storage based on design criteria, product characteristics, inventory assessment, regulatory requirements to estimate the required square footage for real estate.
- Understand and capable to select different MHE technologies applied in logistic warehouse operation to develop workflows and processes and methodologies for receiving, picking, packing, and shipping customer goods based on specific requirements.
Cost Development
- Working with different MHE vendor to price the proposed solutions considering various cost structures and operational factors to develop the cost of the solution.
- Understand cost structures, acquire costs for equipment and building improvements, and adjust pricing according to customer templates.
- Understanding Cost Modeling, participate in operational collaborations, and handle pricing complexity at an advanced level to develop solution pricing. Assist with developing cost models, assumptions, and risks of the solution.
- Establish labor standards and align IT Warehouse Management System (WMS) to support warehousing workflows and processes.
- Develop Return on Investment (ROI) analysis to assess the effectiveness of existing processes and conduct the analyses.
Solution support
- Using AutoCAD and 3D design software to develop warehouse layout and visual aid material (3D layout, videos).
- Develop material flow, process flow charts.
- Write up concept of operation documents to describe the customer’s requirements, and proposed solutions.
- Support the sales team by describing the process, highlighting innovations, and making continual revisions based on client needs.
- Support Implementation process to ensure the solution
- Engage in various industrial engineering activities, including process mapping, value stream mapping, process design, space planning, layout design using CAD, index and scope creep measurement, and inventory assessments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university
- 5-8 years of experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MS Excel, MS Access, MS Project, Power BI, SQL experience.
- AutoCAD, 3D modeling (Sketchup)

TRAVEL
- This position is expected to travel approximately 25% - 50%.
