About the Position
The Load Planner will oversee and be accountable for the quality of load planning and transportation execution for Kenco. This position drives efficiencies by reducing transportation costs per shipment and overall costs while maintaining the highest service standards for the business.
Functions
- Manage the load planning process of the Transportation Management System (TMS) assigned
- Enter and update shipments throughout their lifecycle in the TMS including mode optimization, carrier selection, and routing guide compliance and reporting
- Schedule inbound deliveries, and outbound shipment pick-ups.
- Manage truck loading process including yard movement
- Assist carriers with instructions and paperwork
- Monitor site to site shuttle movements within the assigned network for efficiencies
- Exception management, including but not limited to, researching order process and managing inventory issues
- Deliver training and maintain required documentation for TMS/Load Planning activities
- Provide enhanced shipment status information to proper stakeholders through new TMS track and trace capabilities within TMS systems
- Direct and assist site in load building and shipment tendering to appropriate carriers, efficiently and cost effectively, including routing guide implementation and compliance management
- Identify additional savings opportunities by reporting and monitoring routing exceptions and opportunities and track results
- Conduct targeted freight analysis to determine, drive, and track transportation improvement initiatives for cost reduction and/or service improvement
- Establish and enforce procedures and measurement tools for proper freight management
- Coordination and communication of expedited and non-routine shipments as needed
- Assist with shipment returns (RFCM)/PPM efforts
- Provide transport and carrier performance KPI’s as directed
- Identify and secure additional transportation capacity as needed including the carrier on-boarding process into TMS
- Advise shipping locations on good freight management techniques (FTL vs TL, maximizing standard service and avoiding unnecessary premium services, minimizing size of air freight shipments, validating the most economical ship from location, etc.)
- Assist site management and other transport staff when compiling training/tutorial materials
- May assist with inventory cycle counts
- Participate in Site Lean activities including Kaizen events and 6S program
- Ensure facility is always inspection ready for SQFI, FDA, and customer requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Associates degree or two years of relevant experience preferred or equivalent experience in transportation execution management
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in transportation execution with 2 years of customer service experience or equivalent experience required
- Transportation Management Systems (TMS) experience required (BluJay strongly preferred)
- Experience with shipment tracking software a plus (Four Kites preferred)
- Knowledge of transportation rating process
- Working knowledge of transportation modes: Truckload, Intermodal, Less than Truckload, Parcel, hot shot, air freight
- Must maintain professional relationship with co-workers, clients and customers always.
- Ability to work flexible schedule nights/weekends as needed
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks while showing resilience
- Be organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to foster a teamwork environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to work with and maintain effective working relationships with other department managers.
- Pass Background and Drug screen.
