Job Description: General Foreperson
The General Foreperson oversees crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies to ensure efficient, correct, and profitable job completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Protocols: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and enforce safe practices on all job sites.
- Crew Management: Dispatch crews promptly to job sites, instruct employees on safety protocols and equipment operation, and maintain professional relationships with employees and customers.
- Maintenance and Cleanliness: Establish systems for proper maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and facilities, ensuring first aid equipment is readily available at all times.
- Employee Relations: Hire, train, discipline, and manage employee work hours, maintaining good morale and handling basic grievances effectively.
- Job Planning: Study and determine the most efficient way to handle each job, considering factors such as location, season, crew availability, equipment, materials, etc.
- Productivity and Efficiency: Control productivity of each crew member, utilize tools and equipment effectively, and minimize waste and loss of materials and chemicals.
- Equipment and Materials: Ensure sufficient and appropriate materials and equipment for each job, store equipment and materials safely to avoid loss or theft.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The General Foreperson has direct supervision over all crew positions.
Requirements:
At least 5 years' prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred; previous experience as a General Foreperson highly desirable.
Education Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent education is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Leadership: Supervise individual employees and crew performance, delegate tasks, and take accountability for crew outcomes.
- Communication: Maintain effective relationships with employees, customers, and the general public, possessing strong organizational skills and able to travel throughout the week to assigned crew locations.
- Physical Demands: Work outdoors under varying weather conditions, requiring a valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
- Certifications: Obtain and maintain first aid certification and CPR, effectively communicating with others and traveling out of town for storm restoration work when necessary.
