Title: Library Circulation Assistant, Kendallville Location
Reports to: Circulation Manager
Wage: $15/hour, based on experience, pay grade level 5
Schedule: Part-time (28hours); Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30-3, Wednesday 11-3, Friday 12-5 and two Saturdays a month 8:30-3.
Job Summary:
The Library Circulation Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of public service, data entry and paraprofessional duties related to the general services and operations of the circulation department.
Duties include:
1. Use an online circulation system to check out materials to patrons, check in returned materials, renew library materials, locate library materials, and place holds and requests.
2. Register patrons for a library card or statewide public library access card (PLAC); processes library card applications; renew and replace lost cards.
3. Accept payment for fines and fees, subscription and PLAC fees. Also, receive and record miscellaneous revenue (copies, faxes, etc.) received at the circulation desk.
4. Schedule meeting room use with the library’s electronic calendaring software.
5. Explain and enforce library circulation policies and resolve simple patron issues.
6. Empty the book drop.
7. Provide basic assistance, maintenance, and support for copy/fax machine.
8. Direct patrons to the appropriate location, depending on patron need.
9. Answer and direct incoming phone calls. The associate is aware of the staff schedules and library activities.
10. Inspect returned library materials for damage. Clean materials and prepare them for use.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- Candidates will need to be 18 years of age. A high school diploma is required or its equivalent.
- Basic computer skills are required, including proficiency with a mouse and keyboard; knowledge of Microsoft Office software is a plus.
- Understanding of the Topic Driven model and ability to use the online Public Access Catalog.
- Fluent in English both oral and written; articulate over the phone and in person.
- Must have the ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 30 pounds, and push up to 100 pounds.
