PET GROOMING STYLIST JOB DESCRIPTION – KENL INN MARCH 2025
The Pet Grooming Stylist is responsible for ensuring all pets are properly groomed and finished using humane practices and
minimizing pet stress. Additionally, the Pet Grooming Stylist is responsible for assisting bathers/brushers and the maintenance
and cleaning of the groom shop.
The Pet Grooming Stylist is responsible for communication with clients regarding pet grooming needs or behavior issues/concerns. They also assist with mentoring team members to improve their skill set, train bather/brushers and assist with dog skin or health issues within the facility. The Pet Grooming Stylist reports to the Grooming Manager and or Grooming Supervisor.
Primary Duties
1. Oversee groom functions for those pets to ensure completion as requested by client and described on the groom card or instruction form. Provide an attractive pet style that meets the client’s expectations and is appropriate for the pet.
2. Ensure bathers/brushers prepare dogs for grooming in accordance with procedures.
3. Observe dog’s coat conditions and when necessary, recommend shaving downs versus dematting of pets.
4. Ensure receptionist is advised of extra charges required for brush-out, dematting or assistance fees.
5. Finish dogs as described in procedures.
6. Bathe dogs/cats as needed.
7. Manage your groom’s schedule to ensure departure times are met or clients are notified in advance of delays.
8. Keep grooming stations stocked with supplies, tools clean and ready for use.
9. Ensure bathers/brushers keep groom shop clean.
a. During the workday, keep the room safe by wiping up water spills and pet accidents as soon as possible.
b. At the end of each workday all hair should be swept/mopped from floor and cleaned from tubs/shower.
c. Holding cages should be ready for the next day’s arrivals.
10. Update pet status on white board and point of sale system. Advise receptionist when dogs that are to be “called when ready” are finished.
11. Always follow safety procedures for pets and staff. Help when a pet is stressed, difficult to manage or show any signs of injury.
12. Monitor your bathing dogs & cats to ensure procedures are properly followed and constructive feedback is provided to as needed.
13. Maintain procedures for all animal care/bathing functions making changes as needed and proposing new procedures to management.
Minimum Experience, Skills, Certification or Academic Background Required
1. High school graduate
2. Excellent oral & good written communication skills
3. Professional groom school graduates preferred or similar grooming experience
4. Proven pet handling experience
5. Initiative-taking, independent worker with attention to detail
6. Ability to work in a team environment
7. Ability to work in a flexible AM / PM, seven-day (one weekend day), client-driven schedule
8. Good decision and problem-solving skills
9. Good organization and planning skills
10. Demonstrated flexibility and proven people skills
11. Proper transportation to and from work
