OVERVIEW

The Second Shift Kennel Supervisor is responsible for supervising all nightly animal care in the daycare, lodging sections and administrative duties in support of these functions.  Additionally, they are responsible for supervising the Pet Counselors and ensuring the maintenance, cleaning and care of the pet center.  The Kennel Supervisor reports to the Kennel Manager.

 

Primary Duties

 

  1.     Animal Care

a.  Our priority is compassionate care for the animals that are in our center by minimizing stress, ensuring safety and care as outlined in company procedures.  Ensure consistency in animal care by all counselors and effective communication between shifts.  

b. Troubleshoot dog behavior issues and staff handling problems.  Utilize basic obedience skills with problem dogs.

c. Troubleshoot dog care issues and staff handling problems. Take steps to resolve feeding/elimination/stress issues timely.

d.   Work with clients and company management/Professional Dog Trainers to resolve dog behavior issues.

e.     Monitor dog incident reports and escalate continual issues to management.

f.       Ensure all Pet Counselors follow pet care schedule daily for consistent care.

 

2.     Managing Staff Performance

 

a.  Work with Pet Counselors in planning daily duties and completion of all planning reports.  Hold regular team huddles to facilitate communication and teamwork

b.  Monitor Pet Counselors supervising dog daycare playgroups to ensure procedures are properly followed, daily schedule is adhered to, and constructive feedback is provided to as needed.

c.  Monitor Pet Counselors boarding, cat boarding to ensure procedures are properly followed and constructive feedback is provided to as needed.

d.  Monitor pet care and cleaning paperwork to ensure proper completion of duties and procedures are followed.

e.  Maintain procedures for all kennel functions making changes as needed and proposing new procedures to management.

f.   Establish with manager key performance targets for key procedures and tasks.  Monitor compliance to performance targets by counselors.

g.   Assist in annual performance reviews for Pet Counselors.

 

3.     Training Pet Counselors

 

a.   Maintain training checklist to ensure it reflects all duties required to complete staff training.

b.   Train new staff in accordance with training checklist.

c.    Ensure regular checks on work performed to ensure consistency, quality and proper following of procedures by all staff.

d.  Provide positive feedback & performance improvement suggestions to staff and for new staff make training adjustments as needed.

 

4.     Staff Administration

 

a.   Adjust staffing schedule based on pet volumes as determined from daily planning worksheets.

b.   Perform staff interviews with Kennel Manager, and selection as outlined in Company Handbook.

c.  Document recurring staff performance issues on proper forms and counsel staff as outlined in Company Handbook.

 

 

Other Job Duties

 

  1.     Management Projects

a.  Review daily and weekly reports for incomplete assignments & issues and work with coordinators to resolve.

b.  Monitor supply levels to ensure proper & timely reporting of items needed for purchase.  Work with other Supervisors and Kennel Manager to ensure stock does not run out.

c.   Prepare and submit monthly management report for assigned area as scheduled

 

2.     Administrative

 

a.  Restock staff forms as needed.

b. Ensure management employee file is complete and HR paperwork processed as per Company Handbook.

 

3.     Ensure weekend and holiday teams are prepared to handle pet and client issues as required.  Serve as first line escalation for pet or facility emergency issues.

 

4.     Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Experience, Skills, Certification or Academic Background Required

1.     High school graduate

2.     Excellent oral & good written communication skills

3.     Previous pet care work experience demonstrates dependability.

4.     2 years’ experience supervising staff in a hospitality industry setting

5.     Dog training experience preferred (professional or personal dogs in a formal class environment)

6.     Self-motivated, independent worker with attention to detail

7.     Proven leadership and training skills

8.     Ability to work in a flexible, PM, seven-day, customer focused environment

9.     Good decision and problem-solving skills

10.   Good organization and planning skills

11.   Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills

12.   Good financial & credit history per company background & credit checks
