General Description:
The Planer Mill Manager shall promote the culture, standards, values and working environment as outlined by Kennebec Lumber Company’s (KLC) Management team and the Operations Manager. The Planer Mill Manager is responsible for day to day safety performance, effective planning, delegating, coordinating and decision making onsite with the support of the Operations Manager to attain desirable production and efficiency results, as well as the overall management of the daily operations of the respective facility. Other responsibilities include sustaining relevant knowledge, maintaining professionalism, motivating team members and monitoring production reports to ensure Safety, Quality, and Productivity are meeting or exceeding company standards. The Planer Mill Manager will support Human Resources (HR) in the hiring process for NH operations personnel while promoting employee education as needed throughout the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility of the Planer Mill Safe Operations
- Time and Attendance – Manage the Planer Mill team time and attendance
- Develop, maintain, and manage the daily workstation rotation schedule`
- Lead 6:00 a.m. morning huddles to set daily expectations for Safety, Quality and Production

Working in Conjunction with the Corporate Safety Specialist - Enforcing Policies and procedures including:
- Training
- Standard safety compliance items: PPE, LOTO, Hot work permits, Forklift safety, Fall Protection, Etc.
- Incident investigation/Return to work agreement – with support from Administrative Staff
- Enforcement of violations
- Perform routine Quality Control (QC) inspections to include opening faces, grader summary checks, thicknesses, etc.
- Work with Operations Manager to plan and execute the production schedule, considering products to be produced for sales
- Responsible for understanding the production process and EWP grading rules

- Productivity/Product metrics by department and employee
- Production scheduling based off of sales and/or customers

- Participate in weekly operations meetings
- Participate in weekly maintenance meetings

- Support administrative service needs to Human Resources, Safety, Sales, Training and/or any other organizational needs
- Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Travel as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Safety Requirements:
Safety First – Personal Protective Equipment
- Steel or Safety Toe footwear is required in all areas.
- Gloves required in designated areas – per task.
- Hearing Protection required in all areas (Exception being inside the cab of outside machine forklifts).
- Eye Protection required in all areas
- Report all near misses and unsafe acts to immediate supervisor.
- Pedestrian awareness at all times.
- Florescent vests and hard hats are required for all outside activity (Exception, pedestrian travel from one building to another).
- Never walk through any overhead door that is controlled remotely (Always use access door next to overhead).
- Familiarize yourself with the various work areas. Learn how to operate the conveyor belts and the emergency stop buttons.
- Familiarize yourself with the various possible pinch points that are in your area.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or other relevant experience
- 3-5 years Management or Supervisory Experience
- Strong Communication Skills
